KS call sign changes

As of July 13, 2010:

K51GC Salina, KS is now KHDS-LP...still analog, not digital (ABC network)

K30GD Great Bend, KS is now KGBD-LP...still analog, not digital (ABC network)

I talked to the station's engineers, and they have no date for a flash-cut to digital, yet.

KAKE-TV Wichita, KS is now KAKE (no more -TV)

KUPK-TV Garden City, KS is now KUPK (no more -TV)

BTW...This is an excellent site!

BTW...KAKE's RF channel 21 is a "DTV replacement translator", and therefore has a PSIPed virtual channel of 10.1

Also, there's no "TEST" RF 19 channel near Wichita, KS. RF 19 is being used by KWCH 12.1 from their transmitter near Hutchinson, KS.

Thanks for the updates!

For now, KHDS and KGBD will show both analog and digital entries (since we don't know when the flash-cut will take place).

The "TEST" transmitter was a bogus record in the FCC database and has been removed.

As for KAKE's and KUPK's use of -TV and -DT extensions, this is how they are stored in the FCC database. We display the callsigns exactly as they are registered in the FCC data, and these stations still include the suffixes.

FYI, these changes should take effect immediately on any newly generated reports.

Here's the FCC public notice that authorizes stations to choose the suffix "-TV", "-DT"...or no suffix, if there are no other services with the same call...as part of the DTV transition...at no cost.

The paperwork that changed K51GC to KHDS-LP...K30GD to KGBD-LP was also filed with the request to drop the "-TV" from KAKE-TV and KUPK-TV...and ALL were granted.

I'm sure that several stations have tweaked their calls...and not all databases have caught up, yet.

Since KAKE's RF 21 is a "DTV replacement translator" is acquires the exact call of the "parent" station...so it too became KAKE...not KAKE-DT.

The engineers at KAKE (which is rebroadcast via KUPK, KLBY, KHDS-LP, KGBD-LP...and it's translators K38GH and K25CV) have confirmed that:

1) There is no date for a digital-flash cut for the LP and TX stations...and will advise when a future plan is developed.

2) That since K38GH and K25CV are TX stations for KGBD-LP...they will have a PSIP of "30.1 KGBD"...not 38.1 and 25.1 respectively, when they are converted to digital.

I hope this helps. What a great service you provide!

Thanks for the update!

The virtual channel mappings for these stations have been changed.
