Preamp or combine two antennas?

Hey guys. My parents live in a rural area, and some time ago I bought them a Winegard 8800. Seems to perform very well, but I there is one station that it has trouble picking up, and that happens to be one that my parents really enjoy...the PBS station out of Shreveport, LA (24.1). They can pick it up off and on, but not consistently. Probably somewhat less than half of the time. They have the antenna pointed to the ESE, towards Shreveport, and generally have good reception from 12.1, which is very close to it. I'm casting for thoughts on what would be the best solution. Get a preamp? Combine two 8800's? Something else?

I'm using about 40ft of RG6U cable. No splitters.

Thanks!!

The signal strengths of the Tv stations are weak signal strength , The tvfool report has a antenna height of 12 feet above ground.

Do not delete the tvfool report with antenna height of 12 feet above ground.

_______

To see what signal strengths are at higher antenna heights.

Make and post 3 more tvfool reports with antenna heights at , 25 feet , 40 feet , 60 feet.

Little signal strength advantage to going higher then 40 feet above ground with antenna and about 25 feet above ground is about the same signal signal strength as 40 feet above ground with antenna.

I recommend installing antennas at about 25 feet or more above ground.

---->Higher then 12 feet is better.<----

---->The Important Situation for Reliable Reception is to Avoid Obstructions in the Directions of Reception.

The directions of reception are , South East , South , North East.<----

___________________________________________________

The Shreveport Area , Digital Broadcast Tv stations/channels are to the , South East.

The Tyler/Longview Texas Area , Digital Broadcast Tv stations/channels are to the , South.

The Idabel Oklahoma Area , Digital Broadcast Tv station/channel is , OETA , Oklahoma , PBS.

Repeater Station K23HY-D UHF channel 23.

Recommend install a Channel Master CM4228HD antenna at a location that has the least amount to no amount of obstructions of any type or kind in the directions of , South East and South.

Aim the CM4228HD antenna at about 120 degree magnetic compass direction.

The Most number of Digital Broadcast Tv stations/channels are the Shreveport Area stations.

And the Tyler/Longview Area has 3 Tv stations that can be received , KLTV ABC , KFXK FOX and MyNetwork , KCEB Me-Tv .

So the situation is aim the HD4228HD antenna to receive some of the Tyler/Longview stations without losing reception of the Shreveport stations.

The HD4228HD antenna aim can be adjusted for best reception.

Most digital Tv's have a signal strength meter and some digital Tv's also have a signal quality meter.

Aim the Winegard HD8800 UHF antenna at about 16 degree magnetic compass direction.

Oklahoma PBS.

The HD8800 antenna will be installed so the reception has the least amount to no amount of obstructions of any type or kind in the direction of , North East.

______________________________________________________

Connect the HD4228HD antenna and the HD8800 antenna together with a Winegard CC7870 , (Hybrid) transformer coupled antenna combiner.

Make the coaxes that connect the antennas to the combiner , the same length.

((Some times reception of the 2 antennas can be improved by (transposing) reversing the 300 ohm connection of the matching transformer (balun) that connects to the HD8800 antenna. Has to do with matching the antenna's phasing.))

______________________________________________________

I am being Very Clear , the CM4228HD is aimed to the , South East/South , and the HD8800 is aimed the , North East.

The CM4228HD is a better antenna then the HD8800 for reception of UHF channels 40 and below.

The Shreveport PBS , UHF channel is 24.

The Shreveport Area Tv stations are Very Weak Signal Strength .

The Oklahoma PBS is a little stronger the the Shrevport PBS so aim the HD8800 at the Oklahoma PBS.

______________________________________________________

Install a Winegard LNA-100 'Boost' antenna system amplifier between the CC7870 and the Tv and/or splitter.

______________________________________________________

For 1 Tv connected use No splitter.

For 2 Tv's connected use a simple common 2 way splitter.

As always , trees and tree leaves , plants and plant leaves , have a Negative effect on broadcast Tv reception and so do buildings including your own roof and house and other obstructions.

The Best Practice is to install the antennas at a location that has the least amount to no amount of obstructions of any type or kind in the directions of reception including your own roof and house.

Digital Tv Tuners can develop - Digital Glitches - that are not cleared out with simple channel scans.

Do Double Channel Scan , http://www.dtv.gov/rescan.html
