Middle of nowhere, hilly terrain

My radar plot: http://www.tvfool.com/?option=com_wr...a3625af709a9b4

I've been trolling this forum for a while and have been learning quite a bit; what a tremendous resource. Beyond just equipment recommendations, I want to know if it's even possible to pick up a decent variety of stations in my situation.

Following the recent DISH Network debacle , we've begun looking into firing them and getting our TV going forward via OTA and NetFlix streaming.

Country living is good (we're on a dirt road), but it would appear that choices are somewhat limited. Although the Atlanta market is a bit closer as the crow flies, the crest of a hill lies in that direction right behind our house. The Greenville market, while farther away, seems to have the better NM numbers, and the Fox station appears pretty good indeed (and one of my main concerns is getting Atlanta Falcons games.)

Our house is on the side of a fairly steep hill. The peak of the roof is about 18' above ground at the uphill side of the house; add 10' to that for the ground level of the downhill side. Playing with antenna heights produces varied results, and something tells me a bit of experimentation will be in order.

One question I have off the bat is this: Realizing that I would probably need to utilize a preamp and/or amplified distribution box, would that powerful station 16 miles away overwhelm my setup?

Thanks in advance for your input.

When Ya get to the middle of nowhere , you can say we are now here. . Using the coridinates at the >Start MAPS< part of tvfool and looking down with the satellite view I see houses. It will be helpful if you will identify your house. Then we can zoom down for a look at your situation. At the >Start MAPS< part of tvfool you can also move the red balloon pointer and see what stations you can receive.

At 34.412781 , -83.530614 at the south west corner of the white building structure is what looks like a brown patch of ground. After much hunting with the red balloon pointer / antenna location , this looks like a good location to put a 50 foot telescoping pole the Channel Master CM 1650 http://www.channelmasterstore.com/An...Masts_s/42.htm . . The antenna is a Winegard HD 7698P with a Winegard AP8700 preamp . http://www.solidsignal.com . With the antenna pointed to the north east in the direction of channel WYFF 36 NBC you will also receive WNEG 24 IND. , WNTV 9 PBS , WHNS 21 FOX , WSPA 7 CBS. <-- This is with the antenna fixed in the north east direction. With a Channel Master remote control Rotator CM 9521A , the antenna can be rotated around in the opposite direction and receive WSB 31 ABC and WUVG 17 Univision. And WGGD-LP 23 / WDWW-LP 28 , PBS/GPB ????

The brown patch is actually the top of a hill above the excavation for the driveway & house. A 50' telescoping rig placed there is something I hadn't considered, nor was the use of a rotator. Your suggestions have opened up options I didn't realize were available. Thanks!

A taller tower would be better for Tv reception , like 60 to 75 feet to better clear the tops of the trees. If you like hunting for used stuff you can hunt for a used tower. Some places to look for used towers are storage yards of government buildings , a smaller tower is taken down and a taller tower is put in it's place , or a tower is taken down because is not needed. Also salvage yards and metal salvage yards can have used towers because they are worth more as the tower then scrap. Also as you are driving around , look for towers that look like they are standing but not being used or are laying on the ground. Craigslist is a good place to place an ad like this-->Wanted used tower 50 feet or taller that can be used for Tv antenna. And amateur radio business can know of people that have towers for sale. Here are some web sites that sell towers , http://www.telepp.com , http://www.glenmartin.com , http://www.rohnnet.com , http://www.amertower.com

The general public does not know how to find business that do communications wiring , install antennas , erect towers , chat with to get information. To find these business type these words in the google search box , structured wiring , and then the name of a major city and state. In your case atlanta ga. . So you type in , structured wiring atlanta ga.. Ask lots of questions , pump people for information.
