Help choosing 1 of 2 antennas...

Hey guys,

New to the antenna game, so I come looking for advice. I too, am looking to ditch cable/satellite.

I've been reading a bit and believe I want a Winegard roof-mount antenna. I don't have access to much where I'm at, so I'm just looking to pull in a couple local channels.

Here's my report: http://www.tvfool.com/?option=com_wr...46aea9655a1cf3

I'm currently looking at the 7694 and the 7697. Am I even on track for proper selection?

What would you guys recommend?

Looking at the Tvfool Digital Current Plus Pending Applications Included Radar Report and Channel List.

The Digital Broadcast Tv stations/channels in the Green reception zone are Easy to Receive with either antenna.

-----

The Weak signal strength

WPCW - Real UHF channel 27 , The CW Network.

KDKA-TV - Real UHF channel 40 , the CBS Network.

The HD7697P antenna is a good choice to reach out for the Weak Tv stations.

The HD7697P is a Big antenna.

So My recommendation is , Step up to the HD7698P , also a Big antenna.

The HD7698P has a little more UHF channels antenna gain.

Aim the HD7698P antenna at about , 211 degree magnetic compass direction.

UHF channel 40 , KDKA , CBS .

Here is how to aim antennas , www.kyes.com/antenna/pointing/pointing.html

Use a Real and Actual magnetic compass to aim antenna.

As always , the antenna aim , antenna height , antenna location , can be adjusted for best reception.

Most Digital Tv's have a Signal Strenght Meter and some Digital Tv's also have a Signal Quality Meter

Use the , ronard(4560) , eave antenna mount.

Measure around the chimney and use a , ronard(2212) , ronard(2218) , ronard(2224) .

Buy the ronard antenna mounts at , www.solidsignal.com , by typing , ronard(x) , in the solidsignal search box or buy from , www.ronard.com .

-----

Test reception without a antenna system amplifier.

-------

For 1 Tv connected use No splitter.

For 2 Tv's connected use a simple common 2 way splitter.

For 3 Tv's connected use a simple common 3 way splitter.

-----

If reception is not reliable of the 2 weak signal strength Tv stations , then install a Winegard , LNA-100 'Boost' antenna system amplifier before any splitters.

------

Here are some places to buy antennas and etc. .

-----

The Tv/s Must Channel Scan for the , OTA=Over The Air , Digital Broadcast Tv stations/channels , often named the ~ DTV Channels ~ Antenna Channels ~ Air Channels ~ in the Tv Setup Menu because the Tv transmissions travel through the Air from the transmitting antenna to the receiving antenna.

Some Digital Tv's will Automatic channel scan for cable Tv channels.

DO NOT channel scan for cable Tv channels.

Go into the Digital Tv Setup Menu and select ~ DTV Channels ~ Antenna Channels ~ Air Channels~.

Scan for channels.

------

As always , trees and tree leaves , plants and plant leaves , have a Negative Effect on Broadcast Tv Reception and so buildings and other obstructions including your own roof and building.

Some and not all Negative Effects are

Absorbing , Blocking , Reception

Multi-Path Reflections bouncing all around.

The Best Pratice is to install the antenna at a location that has the least amount to no amount of obstructions of any type or kind in the directions of reception including your own roof and building.
