Outdoor Antenna recommendation

http://www.tvfool.com/?option=com_wr...e6a4147041df7d

Want to install an exterior antenna about 20 feet off the ground, perhaps on a mast connected to the top corner of a roof gable. Recommendations on an antenna?

Thanks.

Hello, ndchris02'

I suggest a Winegard HD7694P aimed at about 148 degrees magnetic.

You will probably not be able to receive WUNC PBS or WRPX ION because they are in different directions. Separate antennas or a rotator would be needed.

Can a second antenna be added and aimed at PBS & ION signal so that these signals can be seamlessly channelsurfed on the same TV input?

Thank you!

Not easily done. It would require a total of three antennas, because there are three different directions.

WUNC would require a separate UHF antenna like the HDB91X and a custom channel 25 inserter from Tin Lee Electronics (expensive) or Jan Jenca (ebay, less expensive). An alternative would be to connect the main antenna to the TV antenna input and the PBS antenna to a separate tuner like the CM7003, with its output connected to an aux input of the TV.

WRPX would require another HDB91X, and maybe a preamp, connected to the 7003 with an A/B switch which would require rescanning, or a second 7003 that would avoid rescanning.

I'm in Elon, about 45 miles west of you. I have a very similar plot and get most of what you get with a 4 bay bow tie. I aim it slightly off of the south east direction and get the strong stations from all 3 directions. The south west stations are a bit iffy in summer due to some trees in the way though.

You might look at a DB4 with the reflector removed.

Several things to consider that might give you reason to pause.

WUNC will be relocating to UHF 20 midway through the repack.

ION has not made their future known so it's not possible to predict if they chose to sell out, stay on the air, relocate channels, channel share or whatever. Results won't be known for at least 2 weeks, maybe more (???).

Any specialty filter/combiners purchased now will be presumed to be obsolete with about a 2 out of 3 likelihood once the repack occurs.

For much of the Raleigh area, I usually recommend a DB4e with our VHF kit. Sometimes, a C2V with no reflector works fine. A lot depends upon your very immediate surroundings with buildings a trees being the common impairments that cannot be overcome. The TVFool plot does not take those factors into account, they have to be assessed manually.
