picking the right antenna

My results above. cutting the Comcast cord and want to do it right. Suggestions for outdoor single story mount or in attic mount? prefer not pre amped or amped, but will consider. only splitting to 2 tvs at opposite ends of house. mount will be closest to main set, while bed tv will need about 50' of cable from mount.

Thx so much for helping a non-technophile weave through the mountain of graphs, gain, signal drain and more. Everything, I've read to date tell me to stay away from indoor and go outdoor all the way. I just want to do this once and correctly. I don't mind installing outdoor, but not if I don't have to. the station that worries me is the vhf wmc-tv5 channel.

Our home is brick and stone, single story, asphalt shingles, blown cellulose insulation in a wooded area inside the city limits of Memphis. 2 tvs we wish to receive signals for are at opposite ends of the house, but are at each end and near outside walls. no foil backed insulation, but we do have aluminum frame windows (for a little while longer anyhow). Sets are not close to windows.

Since you have been so helpful, is there a referral site I can buy an antenna from where you get credit? Without testing your integrity? I don't mind getting my "best option" as most antenna pale in cost comparison to jacked up cable rates. Any brand, class, or specific info that could be shared with me?

The television transmissions are Strong. Buy the Philips SDV5119/27 , NON Amplified indoor Tv antenna at Walmart . Take it to the house where you live and where a digital Tv is at , or a analog Tv with a digital to analog converter box , connect the antenna to the digital Tv or the digital to analog converter box , Turn on the Tv and if there is a digital to analog converter box , turn that on also. In the menu of the digital Tv or converter box will be some wording that says something like this--> scan for digital broadcast television channels. May not be those exact words , however the meaning will be the same. If a digital to analog converter box is connected to analog Tv , the out put of the converter box can be switched to channel 3 or 4 for the analog Tv to receive. At your location switch the converter box out put to channel 3 and the Tv is set to receive channel 3 , the converter box does all the channel changing and the analog Tv stays on channel 3 all the time. If you have digital Tv's then you do not need a converter box. . I can go into the smallest detail , however it will be very helpful if you can figure out at least some of this your self.

And because others get confused . I am making it 100% clear , if your Tv or Tv's are digital Tv's that receive Digital Broadcast Television Channels , then a converter box is not needed.

If you will like to install a outdoor type of Tv antenna in the attic , providing the roof is not metal has no foil backed insulation or solar panels on the roof. then a simple all channel antenna like a RCA ANT751 or Antennacraft HD850 or Winegard HD7010 or ChannelMaster CM3016 will work fine. And yes you can put the out door Tv antenna on top of the roof. . . No preamplifier is needed for 1 or 2 Tv's connected.
