2 general knowledge questions

hello- I'm enjoying my tv/preamp setup, but have 2 questions:

1. I have the preamp mounted about 12 feet of cable length away from the antenna (so it is inside the attic)-- will mounting it right on the antenna make much difference?

2. Does a splice automatically result in signal loss? I have joined several lengths of high quality RG6 together to make my 130 foot cable run

Thanks!

The extra loss is of 12' prior to the preamp is about a half a db on the highest UHF channel and negligible on VHF.

The splice does add very slight losses, but the preamp before the splices has already negated the extra loss.
