Newbie - please help with choosing antenna

Hello everyone!

First off, I really have no clue when it comes to antennas... I usually buy anything I see in the stores, thats cheap... which hasn't worked so well b/c I didn't get many channels (like < 5 channels)

I'm moving to baltimore and am hoping to save some $$$

Here is my report: http://www.tvfool.com/?option=com_wr...073bd1a3cc5b01

I just want the basic channels: NBC, ABC, CBS, FOX, any news channels

I'll also be living in an apartment building so the antenna can only be placed inside my apartment so i'm definitely looking for something basic.

I'm a newbie to this tv antenna thing so any help is appreciated! Thanks in advance

ALL Questions and Answers and Information - Broadcast Tv Reception and More

Most of the Tv stations are to the west , north/west.

Are there any windows to the , west , north/west??

Is there a patio or balcony to the , west , north/west??

What floor is the apartment??

How many floors does the building have??

If the apartment is a end unit , what end , the end closest to the Tv transmitters to the , west , north/west or furtherest away from the Tv transmitters to the , west , north/west??

- There are windows east and NE of the apartment

- There is a balcony at the end of the apartment facing north

What floor is the apartment??
- The apt is on the 1st floor

How many floors does the building have??
- There are 3 floors total

If the apartment is a end unit , what end , the end closest to the Tv transmitters to the , west , north/west or furtherest away from the Tv transmitters to the , west , north/west?? - The apt is at the very rear of the building that faces north. The tv will be in the room furthest away from the balcony (again, balcony is the very rear of the building) so you walk into the rear of the building is the apt livingroom, further in is the kitchen, bedroom then balcony at the very end -- its like a rectangle.
I hope that made some sense, i'm bad at directions. Also looking for something easy to install. Thanks!

Knowing , right , left , forward , back , north , south , east , west , does make life easier.

On the north patio , install a ANT751 antenna aimed at about 300 degrees magnetic compass. (north/west).
Here is how to aim antennas , http://www.kyes.com/antenna/pointing/pointing.html.

Here is a stand that makes a great stand for a antenna on a patio or balcony.
http://www.ronard.com/909911.html.

The prefered way to get the coax from the antenna from the outside of the building to the inside of the building is a hole through the wall.

Here is another way to do it , Holland 144823 flat cable.

Buy the Holland 144823 flat cable at solidsignal by typing holland 144823 in the solidsignal search box.

Buy the ronard antenna mount at solidsignal by typing the word ronard in the solidsignal search box or buy from ronard.

Buy the ANT751 antenna at solidsignal by typing ant751 in the solidsignal search box.

Here are places to buy antennas and etc. , http://www.solidsignal.com , http://www.amazon.com.

Here is the Federal Antenna Law that says yes you can install and use a antenna that is on a patio or balcony.

http://www.fcc.gov/mb/facts/otard.html.

And before you say that hole through the wall is not allowed.

Are there any small satellite dishes outside of the buildings??

And most likely how does the coax from the small satellite dishes get from the outside of the building to the inside of the apartment.
