Help: Interference

http://www.tvfool.com/?option=com_wr...e1c67867644e86

I recently purchased a Lava HD8008 antenna and installed in the attic. I don't presently have a splitter connected but am looking to soon. I'm experiencing some interference (not terribly often) when seemingly a train passes which is about half a mile away. The tracks are in line with the major stations (about 65-70 miles away). If this is what is causing the interference, would a preamp help? I believe there is already 32db amplifier built in.

Second part of my question would be then, what would be recommended for splitting? I tried splitting with no distribution amp, just a 4 way splitter and that didn't work.

From antenna to plug is probably 30-40 feet i'm guessing.

If I have to choose between powering through interference over splitting, that's what i'd prefer if i can't do both.

Any help would be much appreciated. I'm clearly a novice.

Thanks!

Above the Peak of the Roof install a.

HBU44 antenna aimed at about 152 degree magnetic compass direction.

Here is how to aim antennas.

http://www.kyes.com/antenna/pointing/pointing.html.

Use a Real and Actual magnetic compass to aim antenna , do not trust a , cell phone , tablet and etc. compass.

Most Digital Tv's have a Signal Strength Meter and Some Digital Tv's also have a Signal Quality Meter.

Install a.

10G201 preamplifier.

------------------------

For 1 Tv connected use No splitter.

For 2 Tv's connected use a , Holland Electronics , HFS-2D , 2 way splitter.

For 3 Tv's connected use a , Holland Electronics , HFS-3D , 3 way splitter.

For 4 Tv's connected use a , Holland Electronics , HFS-4D , 4 way splitter.

Buy the , HFS-2D , HFS-3D , HFS-4D , splitters at , http://www.hollandelectronics.com , or , http://www.amazon.com.

Here are some Above the Roof antenna mounts.

http://www.ronard.com/909911.html. Install the , ronard(911) , 5 foot tripod antenna mount.

http://www.ronard.com/ychm.html. Measure around the chimney and use a , ronard(2212) , ronard(2218) , ronard(2224) .

For coax that is exposed to the weather outside.

Use coax that has the Compression Type Connectors on the ends of the coax , so as to keep water out of the connectors and coax.

Do not use coax that has the crimp type connectors.

If this is what is causing the interference,
Probably, if you are having problems as trains pass through.

No, you already have an amp but it's of unknown quality.

They probably lied about that, too.

just a 4 way splitter and that didn't work.
If you put the splitter between the amp and its power supply, you deprived the amp of its power and turned it into a brick. At least, as a brick, we know what to expect from it.

That isn't a choice since the amp will amplify the interference also.

You have a number of very local signals. Most amps will overload and cause loss of received signal.

We all were at some point. I bought my share of Radio Shack junk back in the day.

Are you able to identify which of those local translators are being received? Are you receiving any of the direct signals from OK City?

I'm getting the OKC stations and they look fine. Fox is usually the first to go when I begin experiencing issues.

I believe 44, 45, and 31 come in.

Greetings Studebaker839,

Lava HD8008 - ouch. This is one of those designs as ADTech mentions that aren't ideal. Anytime you see a manufacturer boasting about mileage and the built in amplifier with this space age design - RUN. Translation here is that the antenna's design has no real gain and they are cheating by amplifying the signal at the antenna itself and saying it has this tremendous gain and reception capability - which it doesn't. Unscrupulous advertising to say the last. Real gain is achieved through elements that capture the signal out of the air. This is why you used to see large 15' long aerials. Those antennas created real gain via their size and elements. This is why the DB8e is large with its 4 panels. It utilizes real gain.

If I was at your location, I'd scrap the Lava HD8008 and start fresh on your roof. If you see OKC signals at magnetic 153, that's a good sign. It shows a proper antenna may do well for you.

A DB8e mounted on your roof free of obstructions orientated to magnetic 153 ought to do the trick for UHF signals. A second VHF only antenna will likely be needed for high-VHF reception in KOCO and KETA. The Antennacraft Y10713 would be called on for those signals. Y10713 orientated to magnetic 153 as well. Combine signals with an Antennas Direct EU385CF signal combiner. Run single coax into home.

There are plenty of roof options to mount. Whether it be tripod or roof mount. A critical criteria though is making sure in the direction of magnetic 153 no blocking structures or foliage is in the immediate vicinity.

Cheers.
