Channels 5,8,10,and 12 are all available from mt. Baldy towers as well as their older sites. From my house in Ashland they are LOS at 8.1miles and 332 degrees true, not 44miles from my location as indicated by TV Fool database.

Hi, Jim:

Does your tvfool report look something like this?
http://www.tvfool.com/?option=com_wr...dfafdaa47b9bbb

The transmitters at 8.1 mi are called translators (a repeater on a different frequency) to cover your area for the main transmitters that are 44 miles away.

K32DY is the translator for KOBI
http://www.rabbitears.info/market.ph...callsign=k32dy

K47LD is the translator for KTVL
http://www.rabbitears.info/market.ph...callsign=k47ld

KSYS has two transmitters, one on real channel 8 and one on real channel 42, both with the virtual channel number 8.1.
http://www.rabbitears.info/market.ph...&callsign=ksys

K21BG is the translator for KDRV
http://www.rabbitears.info/market.ph...callsign=k21bg

It is the real channel number that determines what antenna is needed.

VHF-Low, real channels 2-6
VHF-High, real channels 7-13
UHF, real channels 14-51

The virtual channel number (like 5.1) is a holdover from the analog TV days to maintain the identity of the station, and is what the TV displays.

Hi Rabbit, yes my report is like yours, but not knowing the real channel numbers and having the virtual numbers included in the report, and the network designators on some of callsigns I was confused. I didn't recognize the translator callsigns as my local channels.
I called the engineer at kdrv and he told me about the translator on Baldy. I have now pointed my small RCA 751 antenna at the LOS Mt.. Baldy and I get all the channels with excellent reception, so much so that I experimented with the extra RCA 751 that I have, installed it in the garage attic, and get great reception also.
Maybe the Tv Fool report should include the network designators for each Call Sign?
Thanks for your help.....Jim

Thanks for the report, Jim. I'm glad that I was able to give you some useful information that improved your reception.

That would be nice, but I don't think it will happen because there is a shortage of people to even keep the data base up to date. At least the callsigns, real channel numbers, and signal strengths are given, and we can look up the other information on rabbitears.info and wiki.

I'm thankful we we are able to get tvfool signal reports. Even without the missing virtual channel numbers and the networks, they are better than anything else available to help with reception problems.
