360 antenna or directional

Hi,

here is my report.

http://www.tvfool.com/?option=com_wr...e77956a7b935a4

Tried indoor antenna before I found this website with no success. Now I started using the RCA ANT800R flat panel digital antenna, seems to work pretty well for not having to rotate anything and not having a huge antenna on the roof.

The two stations I thought I'd get but am not are channels 11 and 13. Is this antenna just too weak and if so what would be a recommendation for best antenna for my location. Not sure the range on the RCA and it's relatively flat here in west michigan.

Thanks so much!
Ryan

11 and 13 are significantly weaker and on a different heading) than the other VHF channels you do get. I don't think the antenna will pull VHF as well as it does UHF.

The report also shows your antenna being 30 above the ground. Is that accurate?

How far is the power supply from the antenna?

Thanks tom. Probably more like 15feet. It's just currently resting up on the roof.

Power supply? There is what I'd call a small amplifier that came with the antenna, that's the only thing that plugs in to power. But that is on a small coax lead right at the tv.

The reason I asked about the power supply (amplifier) is this: http://www.amazon.com/review/R19573D...re=electronics
(last paragraph)

Post a link to a new report with 15 ft elevation so we know what we're looking at.

Have you tried re-orienting the antenna at all?

The trouble with this style of antenna is you risk overamplifying the strong signals of which you have some. A decent passive antenna might be a better choice for you. If you were attracted to the RCA because of the small form factor, you might find something like a DB2e (or DB4e) with a dipole add-on palatable.

If you can handle a screw driver you can take apart the reflector assembly and put the dipole on the back of the DBe (screw hole is already there). It's a compact but potent combination, and the dipole is very effective on 11 and 13. I'm pulling 11 and 13 from almost 100 miles away with the exact same dipole (though I wouldn't have believed it if I hadn't seen it myself).

However, that's all speculative until you post an updated report.

The following is a Teleview - Recommendation for Digital Broadcast Tv Reception.

Above the roof install a Clear Stream 2 Complete UHF/VHF antenna aimd at about 160 degree magnetic compass direction. http://www.antennasdirect.com/store/...VHF-Combo.html.

Here is how to aim antennas , http://www.kyes.com/antenna/pointing/pointing.html.

For 1 tv connected use no splitter.

For 2 Tv's connected use common simple 2 way splitter.

The following is a Teleview - Digital Broadcast Tv Reception Recommendation.

As always , trees and tree leaves do a real fine job of reducing or blocking Tv reception and so do buildings and other obstructions.

It is best to install the antenna at a location that has the least amount to no amount of trees and obstructions in the directions of reception.

The Tv/s Must Channel Scan for the Digital Broadcast Tv Channels , sometimes named the 'Air Channels' or 'Antenna Channels' in the Tv setup menu because the Tv transmissions travel through the air from the transmitting antenna to the receiving antenna.

DO NOT channel scan for cable tv channels.
