You have nearby adjacent stations whose local power levels are such that they exceed the power of the distant stations by an amount that the tuner cannot handle. The limit is about 35 dB.

WNYW is swamped by WNJT on channel 43 with a margin of about 50 dB.

WNBC is bracketed on both sides by WGTW and WUVP by more than 35 dB each.

Wouldn't expect the DB8e to pick up a very weak channel 7, you would need a capable VHF antenna added to the system as you noted.

5.3 is NOT part of the same signal as 5.1 & 5.2, it's actually part of the signal that carries WWOR which displays as channels 9.1-9.4. It's done through the magic of virtual channel numbering.
