It sounds like your cabling was done as a "daisy-chain".

You might need to use single port coaxial cable taps instead of splitters. They offer a minimal amount of through insertion loss (0.4 - 2.0 dB) and known amount of tap loss(6-30 dB). In order to determine if these are appropriate, we'd need to know a few more details. Namely, we''d need to know more about the incoming signal powers plus the details of each cable run and how many of each is in the house.

The through losses and the tap losses are asymmetrical as compared to those of a standard splitter.
