KAAS's programming is carried on KSAS-LD in Dodge City and operates on UHF is likely what you are getting. The odds of picking up KAAS's channel 17 signal from the other side of Salina, except under unusual atmospheric conditions, is nil.

The other factor that stands out is that at least three of the stations to the west (KBSD, KUPK, and KSNG) are on VHF (including one on channel ) and the DB8e, being explicitly a UHF antenna, wouldn't be expected to pick them up. You'll need a channel 2-13 antenna combined with the DB8e but the deep-fringe 2-13 antennas are a thing of the past.

You also need a low-noise, medium gain preamplifier.
