antenna from Walmart. It's under $10 and returnable. Easy experiment.
Of course, the problem with set top antennas is that they are subject to interference by things inside the house, like people and walls and the stuff in them. But it would be a great experiment, as it could give good enough results for the person to consider investing in a more suitable attic or outdoor antenna.
