But I'm hoping somebody here has a pointer to gain specs for the HBU55...I'm particularly interested in how bad its low-VHF specs were.
It seems that the high-VHF was around 11 dB over reference dipole...

I'm using one of these, and it does pick up VHF 5...but it misses potential channels at 2, 4, and 6. Trying to understand what improvement is possible with a replacement antenna...(I'm already using a quality preamp, so there's no potential there.)

Thanks for any info / pointers you can provide at this late date.

Hello, David.

The HBU55 doesn't have specs for 2-6 (VHF-Low) because it wasn't designed to receive that band.

For a replacement antenna, consider the Televes Televes DAT Series BOSS Mix LR Low-VHF/High-VHF/UHF Antenna

or the
Solid Signal Xtreme Signal Long Range HD VHF UHF FM Outdoor TV Antenna (HD8200XL)
