If you find you can't make the USB tuner work by improving the antenna aim or location, the SiliconDust HDHR3-US is worth looking at. It connects to the PC via Ethernet. This means you can locate the tuner close to the antenna if there is power and a CAT-5 wired connection to your LAN. (Wireless may work, but it's more prone to packet loss which will make the video and audio quality unacceptable.)

If the well is dry and you don't see rain on the horizon, you'll need to dig the hole deeper. (If the antenna can't get the job done, an amp won't fix it.)
