The antenna is assembled with the panels facing the the same way. (Co-planar to be more precise.) Then aim the entire assembly.

The preamp has two parts... The outdoor amplifier module that works best when located close to the antenna, outside. The second part is a power supply module that goes indoors. The coax cable is used to connect the amplifier and power supply. The amp and power supply can be more than 100' from each other.

If the well is dry and you don't see rain on the horizon, you'll need to dig the hole deeper. (If the antenna can't get the job done, an amp won't fix it.)
