What is the intended behavior of "duplicate" virtual channels?

I live in a fringe-reception area with a very lively broadcast market (San Francisco), and I'm puzzling over what should happen when there is "station ambiguity." Here's the background:

A...

Sorry for my ambiguous communication. I know I'm receiving only one of these stations, but the one that declares itself to be the one I'm receiving is waaaay too far away to be believed. Both...

Terrestrial "call signs" -- are they required to be correct?

I have an odd situation, where I receive a very weak signal from a station that is a "clone" of another one much farther away. The close station and the far one are both 3 kW ERP transmitting on...

Do solar panels decrease antenna performance?

Hi.
I live in a deep-fringe area (nearest real station is 70 miles) and I put a really nice antenna into the attic (built it in before the ceiling plasterboard was put in...can't change it now...). ...

Did some further research, analysis, and testing.

One of the things that surprised me was the breadth of the beamwidth, which on a dish you'd expect to be pretty narrow. At these frequencies and...

Those "wings" -- and which way they should point..

I have a newer AntennaCraft beast (made just before RS went under) and I had the same issue with those "wings". All the info around made it clear that they should be parallel with the main boom ......

Comparative designs, tests and results--the 10' parabolic

So with COVID-19 I have time on my hands at home and did a bunch of comparative measurements. Used Nuts About Nets spectrum analyzer to compare--the only variation in the configuration was the final...

Thanks for the tips, and the reference to the antenna book! Seems like all of its characterizations are for transmission...but they should apply reflexively to reception.

I'll give the stacked...

Big dish on tower

Wow, well if you've got a 3000 lb+ foundation that's cool.
I'm not sure how you're going to get the dish very far up in the air--you'll need to set up some sort of winch system or use a very tall...

First Impressions with 10 foot parabolic antenna

So, the first thing you have to realize is that the 10' C-band antennas are pretty solid, heavy and with a fair degree of wind resistance. As the reflecting surface is typically expanded metal with 2...

Situation: 70-120 miles away from some very big signals (1 MW), but almost nothing less than 30 miles away. Everything is UHF except VHF 7 and 11.

Goal: Grab every signal I can; currently at about...

Signal analysis: I'm missing something jere

Thanks, Rabbit, for running the other simulation software, and for the clarifying explanation. Yes, my antenna is no more than 15 feet above the ground. The XYL won't allow a tower...so can't...

Signal analysis: I'm missing something jere

Thanks so much for your reply.

Well, I do have a Kitz preamp that advertises a lower noise figure and nominally higher gain...but the CM actually pulls in more stations when I do an A/B...

My amp results/comparison

I own both the KT500 and the Channel Master 7777, plus a couple of other "high gain" amps from Radio Shack and no-name-Chinese mfr. I have no way of calibrating the actual gain and noise levels...

I live in a deep fringe area and have a pair of identical UHF/VHF combo Yagis properly stacked. When I first hooked them up, I didn't have an antenna combining balun, so I just wired them in parallel...
