I would aim for the farther away stations with the ANT-751 as the stations out of Shoreview will probably be received no matter what azimuth the antenna is facing (in the attic).

Yes, connect the coax from the antenna directly to the TV and do a channel scan (Don't drill any holes yet). Make sure you choose antenna or air, NOT cable, in the settings before starting the scan....
