Fairview, TN - Antenna Advice
 

I'm surrounded by tall trees (although clearing a couple may be an option). Need some advice on a good attic mounted antenna to purchase. The majority of channels are located between 42 and 43 degrees. However, ABC and PBS are located at 72 degrees and NBC at 51 degrees. Not sure what type of antenna would be needed to pick up all of these. I'm relatively new to this, but eager to "cut the cable". Thanks in advance for any informed advice.

Both the trees and roof construction present a lot of unknown variability when estimating which antenna will serve best.

Depending on space in the attic, an Antennacraft C290 or better, the C490 would cover the full range of available channels. If you can't get acceptable reception in the attic, the Antennacraft design allows you to re-fold the antenna, making possible to move out to the roof without damage to the antenna.

Use a beginning aim-point of about 50° (compass).

You have plenty of line-of-sight signal so I have high hopes that you'll do well.

A simple reception situation.

This recommendation is based on the Current Plus Pending Applications Included tvfool list of Digital Tv stations/channels.

ALL of the Tv Digital Stations/Channels from WKRN-DT Real VHF channel 27 - Thru - WHTN-DT Real UHF channel 38 IND. In and thru the Green and Yellow reception zones of the tvfool radar plot report will be received.

Install a Winegard HD7082P antenna Above The Roof aimed at about 60 degrees magnetic compass.

No amplifier is required for 1 or 2 Tv,s connected.


The Tv/s Must scan for the Broadcast Television Channels sometimes named the 'Air Channels' or 'Antenna Channels' in the Tv setup menu because the Tv transmissions travel through the air from the transmitting antenna to the receiving antenna.

DO NOT scan for Cable Tv Channels.

I'm planning on feeding the antenna into a preamp and then this device - http://www.silicondust.com/products/models/hdhr3-us/, then taking the Ethernet stream and feeding into a home grown DVR PC. Does this seem like a sound plan?

I merely mentioned this to say the number of TVs won't matter since I'm feeding from a different device to multiple TVs/computers. If it needs to be moved to a different topic I understand.

The device it's feeding into has two tuners if that is relevant to the question. I think if I can ensure a strong and clear signal to the box I should be home free. So just looking for the best reception. Thanks for all the info thus far.
