Help with antenna choice

Hi,

I am looking to install a new antenna in my attic ( I ddn't got permission for the roof ).

My signal survey is:
http://www.tvfool.com/?option=com_wr...001b3f58c3ecfc

I have borrow a cheap amplified antenna to test (http://www.technicontact.com/descrip...EN&catno=VA-55) and I got pretty nice result when amplifier is off. I believe their is saturation on some channels when the amp is on.

I am looking to buy a better antenna that will support VHF-Hi and UHF. The low VHF stations are going to disappear next month in my location.

A did look at the Channel Master 4228HD but it seems like the signal beam is pretty narrow and my not allow me to pick stations thats are 160deg appart.

I will like to avoid a rotor on the antenna. Somebody suggest to use 2 antennas. Is this good a idea? What type of antennas should I look for?

Any advice will be welcome.

Amazing!!!! ---- the address was resolved to the zip code level only ~ with no zip code!!!! There is No City or Canada Territory shown - and - there is No antenna height. A study in how to live some where and not live there at the same time.

JC, you amaze us... He's in Canada and entered a postal code, therefore he doesn't have a Zip Code and TVFool's algorithm fills in the zip field with zeros.

sb1423,

Please run an exact address TVFool report and post that instead. We also need to know which Canadian mandatory market you're in so we can see what the post-transition situation is expected to be. Also, indicate if you're planning for post-transition only as your channel allocations and , hence your antenna requirements, are subject to change.

PS. The antenna you tried has a junk amplifier in it that overloads easily. Based on your postal code report, the use of any amplifier will likely be contra-indicated.

Hi,

Sorry about the zip code. I am from Canada and their is not ZIP code. I have rerun rthe survey with the exact address:
http://www.tvfool.com/?option=com_wr...001b6b057398a5
I am living Ste-Foy, now part of Quebec City, Quebec, Canada and the postal code is G1X2A7. Antenna high is about 15 feets ( attic of a single floor house with a shingles roof ).

I am looking to switch antenna at the end of July while the broadcaster switch to digital will be mandatory for the end of August. During the transition, I do not really care about what channel will be working... it is summer.

My main interest are for ATSC channels: Global, SRC, TVA, CBC, TQc

I have found a little more accurate channels mapping:
Now After transition
CBVE-TV (CBC) 5 ? ( I have earth 67 somewhere but not sure)
CBVT-DT (SRC) 11 12
CFAP-TV (V) 2 39 ( Just confirm a month ago )
CFCM-TV (TVA) 4 17 ( some source said 49 instead )
CIVQ-DT (TQc) 15 15
CKMI-TV (Global) 20 20

ADTech:
Thanks to confirm that the amp is a piece of crap.

Sorry for the lack of information guys. If anything missing, let me know, I will gladly provide the information.

Yes I know about the zip code and post code issue. And I can see that you know about the providing some useful information issue. You provided more then the basics that is needed , Thank you. I recommend a Winegard HD7000R antenna pointed at about 294 true - 310 degree magnetic compass. http://www.canadapost.ca/shopper/sea...negard+HD7000R Here is how to aim Tv antennas , http://www.kyes.com/antenna/pointing/point.html . Rescan for new channels form time to time because new channels and sub channels are being added with out notice.

John's suggestion is a good one. I would encourage you to check out the OTA forums at digitalhome.ca for more information, especially CBC's transition plan to digital broadcasting. In particular, your confusion on CBVE's plans is understandable. Channel 67 was made available for CBVE to use during the transition time to digital broadcasting. CBC never put this on the air. Channel 25 is CBVE's post-transition channel, and would be where you would find CBC come September 1, as Quebec City is a mandatory market. CBC has decided, however, not to construct the digital facility for CBVE, so it will go off the air August 31.

Thanks for your advise.
I have order a Wineguard HD7000R and give it a try.
