Green Bay Packer fan, looking for reception! (pun intended)

I recently moved to Osceola, WI area. I get great reception for minneapolis stations, but they don't carry the Packer games which my family so dearly love!

Here's my report:
http://www.tvfool.com/?option=com_wr...e779f73c5175a5

My goal is to get channel 49 (WEUX), as you can see from my report, I have some hope, but it might take some work. My current antenna gives enough signal that the HDTV receiver in my HTPC is able to recognize the channel, but not enough to give a picture.

My hope is to add a Winegard HD 9095P to my current mast with a 15 dB gain... I will have the 9095 pointed at WEUX and my current antenna pointed at minneapolis. I know i will have to run a USVJ coupler or something similar to get my signal to run down one coax to the house.

Here are my questions before i buy antennas and masts etc:

1) Realistically, do i have a prayer of getting this to work?
2) Can a USVJ be customize to allow only the upper end of the UHF band? I am worried that the USVJ will cut out the minneapolis stations...

Thanks for you help!

1) Probably. You said it almost comes in with your current setup. Could you describe the setup?

2) No. You will need to do one of the following: Ch 49 Channel master Jointenna If you could find one) or a custom signal combiner or use a simple A-B switch and select that antenna for the games .

If you can snap a digital photo of the view in that direction, it would also help.

Cheers!

The following is a Teleview - Recommendation for Digital Broadcast Tv Reception.

A UVSJ can Not be used for your reception situation.

WEUX is Very Weak and can require a lot of dollars and a lot of effort , and still not get reliable reception.

Install a Winegard HD9095P antenna with a Antennas Direct CPA-19 preamp aimed at about 116 degree magnetic compass direction.

Here is how to aim antennas , http://www.kyes.com/antenna/pointing/pointing.html.

This antenna system Will Not be connected to the other antenna system.

The 2 Separate antenna system coaxes will go to the location of the Tv and will be connected to a Remote control A/B coax antenna switch , http://www.radioshack.com , #15-1968 , or , http://www.mcmelectronics.com , #32-4425.

The hand held remote control A/B coax antenna switch is Channel Surfing Friendly , press the button on the remote control , change antennas and keep on channel surfing.

For more then one Tv connected use a ,

HFS-2D , 2 way splitter.

HFS-3D , 3 way splitter.
Buy the splitters at , http://www.hollandelectronics.com or http://www.solidsignal.com.

Here are some places to buy antennas and etc. , http://www.solidsaignal.com , http://www.winegarddirect.com , http://www.amazon.com.

My current setup is RCA ant 3036. No preamp and about 75 feet coax run to a powered splitter that sends the signal to the various tv sets in the house (every room has coax plumbed to it from the splitter). The antenna, wire routing, and splitter came with the house (moved here in June). House was built in 2000.

Ideally I would not like to have a separate coax for the other antenna, as i do not have a good way to route it thru the house to my main viewing TV. (however, i will do what it takes to get the game on that TV!)

The Jointenna would be a great solution! I never heard of those before. Of course getting one for channel 49 will be the challenge

I will confirm my TV antenna brand and give some surrounding pictures tomorrow

Yesterday I cleaned all the connections to the antenna. Slightly repositioned the antenna and received WEUX all evening with very little drop out. Skies were clear and a slight east wind. Of course, this morning, i tried the channel and was unable to get a signal. The good news is that I am close! I just need to figure out how I can get it consistently!

The following is a Teleview - Recommendation for Broadcast Tv Reception.

Install the HD9095P and CPA-19 preamp as directed.

jimmyb 21-Sep-2012 9:14 PM

i assembled my HD9095P and installed the cpa-19. my reception was not improved for channel WEUX. I ran everything direct (no splitter). (antenna, preamp, RG6 to downstairs, amp power infuser, RG6 to TV) I know the preamp is wired and working correctly because i can see a reduction in reception on other channels with it on or off. I tried multiple positions, etc and no improvement.

What are my next steps to try and improve reception? the times i did get reception with my old antenna was in the evening

As of right now, it looks like i am on the loosing side of a $130 gamble :(

The following is a Teleview recommendation fo broladcast tv reception.

The first picture with the 2 vertical green lines looks high up.

With the antenna up that high , move the antenna around on the roof , and up and down to find a location that has stronger more stable signal.

jimmyb 22-Sep-2012 4:10 PM

i have modified my picture with an orange line that shows approx horizontal level to my antenna.

I played with the antenna a bunch today, with no luck. My only guess is that i will have to go higher?

The following is a Teleview recommendation for broadcast Tv reception.

At 40 feet antenna height , the NM(dB) number is minus -8.7 .

Enter in different antenna heights , sometimes lower is better.

Enter in , 60 feet , 80 feet and 100 feet and higher , enter in 25 feet , 10 feet and 5 feet and 1 foot antenna heights and other antenna heights.

Get the NM(dB) number above -8.7 NM(dB).

Is WEUX being received at all?? And if so what is the reception like.??

jimmyb 24-Sep-2012 12:08 PM

i played with the heights on the program. 50 ft gets me to -1.0. 75 only gets me -0.7

All the lower heights were worse.

I did get WEUX a few times in the evening a few weeks back and reception was good. Of course, the next day the reception was gone (with nothing changing). As of right now, my reception is 2 bars out of a possible 6 on the stupid graph in windows media player.

Is there any easy way to try a small tower? obviously adding 10+ feet to my current setup will require some effort (tower, guy wires, etc)

The following is Teleview recommendation for broadcast Tv reception.

Connect the coax to the Tv , By pass windows media player and any other devices that are in the loop.

It is best to not have , this device or that device or some other device that can cause trouble in the antenna set up delivery of the signal to the Tv.

http://www.3starinc.com , has push up antenna masts that use guy wires.

Here are some , free standing , no guy wires , light weight , aluminum , lay over towers , do all antenna mounting antenna adjustments standing on the ground. http://www.palcoelectronics.com/pe300.aspx

I have a TV tuner in my HTPC (home theater computer), this is the tuner that i am trying to watch WEUX on. I am monitoring the tv signal thru windows media player, which is what i use to record and watch my OTA tv shows.

to clarify current setup is this:

HD9095p
3' RG6
cpa-19 preamp
~75' RG6
cpa-19 power supply
25' RG6
coax wall mount
3' RG6 to 2 way splitter
6' RG6 to tv in
3' RG6 to TV tuner on computer in

The tv tuner in my HTPC is a Hauppauge PCI (hooked directly to my MOBO, so it NOT a USB based one). Generally this tuner gets better reception than the one in my Panasonic Plasma TV.

Tonight, i will try bypassing the wall mount and two way splitter and hook my computer tuner directly to the 25' RG6 that is hooked to wall mount.
