what amplifier, should i replace antenna
 

Hello, I am new to this site! I live at http://www.tvfool.com/?option=com_wr...d243194fbfe142. Back in the nineteen hundreds, 1979 to be more precise, I bought a top of the line k townes antenna system with a mast mounted amp? and a power supply in the house. The antenna is about 35 feet in the air mounted on a tower. It has served me well, until about a week ago, everything went blank, the power supply checks out with around 30 vac, so I think its the board on the antenna. What would you recommend to replace the amp and or the antenna?

I'd look at the antenna with a critical eye... Is there any missing, bent or broken elements, are there signs of corrosion that would prevent you from making a secure connection at the antennas terminals or that might be causing poor connections between elements and phasing lines? After 30 years, it's hard to believe an antenna exposed to the elements has much service life to offer.

If you want to approach this in measured steps, the amplifier would be highest on the list of suspects to cause a sudden and complete loss of reception. The RCA TVPRAMP1R is a very good general purpose preamplifier and it's reasonably priced.

If you have to lower the tower to access the preamp and antenna, it may make more sense to replace both. If that's your choice, I'd look at the Channel Master CM-3018 or Antennacraft HD1200 and similar sized all channel antennas.
