Help detemining an HDTV antenna

Hello everyone,

I am new here and am interested in purchasing an HDTV antenna, if it makes sense for me.

Here is my report:

http://www.tvfool.com/?option=com_wr...e6a446ee20ecbc

In short, I have Verizon Fios which I no longer want or need - way too much money. I also have Apple TV, Netflix, and Amazon Prime. I just wish to get as many basic channels as possible (CBS, NBC, FOX, ABC, etc) with an antenna. When reading my report, it seems that this may not be possible? I am only roughly 35 miles west of NYC so I'm not sure why the report isn't as favorable as I would have thought.

Please forgive my lack of intelligence when it comes to this. I appreciate any help and feedback you are willing to provide.

Thanks,
Chris

Welcome Chris,

I would agree that you are not in the best signal area.
Given the fact you have low band VHF, high band VHF
and UHF as well, one of your best alternatives would
be: http://www.homedepot.com/p/Channel-Master-

The antenna is compact, inexpensive and works fairly
well. You should use an outdoor mount, as far away
from trees as possible while keeping the cable to your
television under 50 feet, if possible. RG6 is the best
cable to use, by far. Hope this helps.

Hi Again, Chris

I did more research on your reception area and found that
the signal strength improves significantly once you get above
the tree canopy. There is a huge improvement in reception at
50 feet above ground level versus 20-30 feet. Keep that in
mind.....

Thanks Joe! I am in a two story home so would clearly mount on my roof - slightly under your 50' recommendation

I recommend making and posting another TV Fool report at the intended height of your future antenna using these instructions: http://forum.tvfool.com/showthread.php?t=14508
