Signal Strenght Report - Antenna Advice Needed
 

Hello – I’m very new to OTA concepts. I’ve cut the cable and purchased a ‘smart tv’. Now I need an antennae and advice!

The gutters on my single-story home are 12’ above the ground. I used 15’ to generate the report. I’m considering putting an antennae in the attic or on the roof, if necessary. I’ll stick to simple rabbit ears if that will work in my situation, but I’ve looked at two other options. Other suggestions are welcomed.

From the signal map, it looks like the easier to receive channels are within about 20 miles, and the weaker signals are around 100 miles away, in basically the opposite direction.
So, should I forget all about the weaker signals and just get a more basic antenna capable of receiving the stronger, closer signals?

What’s the consensus on the antenna’s that I listed above and how does that fit into my scenario?

Thanks. Could you tell me why you would try that antenna. Could you comment on the channels that it might receive based on my Signal graph? Are we going for the close stations or do we expect to also pull in the weaker, further away stations, in the opposite direction?

That antenna, aimed properly, should get you the Chattanooga stations which is a reasonable goal. Atlanta is out of range. The rest of the stations are a smattering of unbuilt, low-power, and PBS stations. You'll have to investigate each of them to see if their content is of interest and worthy of your effort to receive them.

OK, that's great. From the reviews, it seems that I can probably expect it to work well in the attic. Does that sound like a good plan?

If I do install on the roof, have any of you heard of tapping into an unused Comcast cable line with the antenna? Someone suggested this, as the unused cable (from previous tenant) goes directly to the tv location from outside the house.

Attics are unknowns for signals. Only one way to find out...

Existing but completely unused serviceable coax runs can be used. The key work is "completely".
