Looking for a recommendation.

Will be mounted in the attic, lots of space so size is a non issue. Then a 50' run a TIVO Roamio DVR. I would prefer no active amp as running power up there might be tricky, but it is what it is.


As for price. Just give me the most robust one out there. With a savings of $50/mo the buy back will be on the order of months.


Been spending some time poking around the site. If the attic is a deal breaker it looks like the rear face of my house is facing the Detroit area so I wouldn't mind putting something off the side like the ANT751E near the peak of the gable. I want to stay away from a roof mount because of the wife approval factor...only so much you can do.

I suggest a Winegard HD7694P antenna in the attic, aimed SE. How well it works will depend upon the signal loss from being in the attic, and any obstructions outside like trees or other buildings.

Make a test first with a temporary run of coax before drilling any holes.

If you need a preamp, it can be powered from down below through the same coax that brings the signals down to you.

If it doesn't work in the attic, then go with the gable mount.

Thanks for your input, put it on order. Understood about local interference with objects. This type of thing can be an iterative process.

Should come in Sat. so I hope to report back results then, I want to get it up before all of the leaves fall off so come May not surprised.

Because of UHF Repack by the FCC, there will be channel changes. For example, WXYZ will be moving from real channel 41 to 25:

If WHNE is important to you, you will need a bigger antenna that covers VHF-Low channels, because it is moving from 20 to 3:

It is the real channel number (also called physical channel or RF channel) that determines what antenna is needed.

VHF-Low, real channels 2-6
VHF-High, real channels 7-13
UHF, real channels 14-51

The virtual channel number (like 5.1 or 5-1) is a holdover from the analog TV days to maintain the identity of the station, and is what the TV displays. By convention, the virtual channel number is given in the decimal form to keep it from being confused with the real channel number.

@rabbit73 thanks for the updated report. The one I really want to get in (but concerned about) is Fox as that would give complete coverage of the big broadcasters. The ABC/NBC/CBS/PBS all look like "sure things"

Don't know if it works yet. Got the antenna mounted (Winegard HD7694P) and hooked up the amp (Winegard Boost XT) and got the cable ran (RJ6), but didn't have any ends.

Welp no dice in the attic. Pulled in a number of channels, but between medium to weak. WJBK went out when the wind blew. Going to have to mount outside.

Sorry to hear you are having a problem.

That is a symptom of trees in the signal path.

You don't know till you try. We have a have trees surrounding us, most just on the lot lines. The oak wilt hasn't got them yet.

Will moving to a gable mount outside help OR should I do some fine tuning with the setup I have?

Now that the rain/wind has died down the signals are "medium", Samsung TV has a level bar hard to give a exact number.

Massive success. We had a nice bit of rain/wind come though WJBK dropped down 40%. Now that it has passed 100% signal. I'd say moving from the attic to open air easily made a 50% improvement.
