new to antenna tv

Looking to get over the air tv at my location and would appreciate any help with antenna purchase and installation. NBC comes in with rabbit ears but PBS is a must for me and it appears to be the most difficult station to pull in. There is lots of tall trees in my neighborhood that probably won't help, thanks.

After looking at your suggestion of the winegard hd7694p, I see its range is listed as 30 miles. The report says PBS tower is 35 miles away. Should I go with a longer range antenna or is this one adequate? What would you suggest with a longer range? I don't mind spending extra and would rather buy a once and done deal. Really appreciate your help, thanks.

Tv antennas and Tv reception

The HD7694P is recommended because the tv stations are widely spaced to the , north west , west and south west. The forward angle of reception of the HD7694P antenna is wide. The longer and bigger a antenna is , the narrower the angle of reception at the front of the antenna. I think that WITF PBS will be received Ok with one tv connected , however if a little more push on the signal is needed then install a Channel Master CM3410 distribution amplifier. http://www.channelmasterstore.com.

Thank you for the explanation. Yesterday I experimented with a small antenna my brother gave me to test signal reception at my house. I didn't have any way to mount it to the roof so I attached it to an extension ladder and laid it against the house fully extended pointed roughly in the northwesterly direction you suggested. I brought in PBS fine but did not receive ABC which is 5 miles farther away. I will order the HD7694P and hopefully get ABC but if not, no big deal.

The reason that your brother's gift worked for PBS station WITF (RF36) is that the PBS affiliate is UHF but did not work for ABC station WHTM (RF10) because the ABC affiliate is Hi-VHF. The fact that the antenna is small indicates that it is probably UHF-only and cannot be expected to receive VHF stations like WHTM.
