Hello all
Just getting prepared to cut off dish service and need some help picking out equipment. Looking to roof mount on ranch style home and hook to 3 tvs. Also only interested in Atlanta stations but others would be a bonus. Thanks for the help.
also to add just one tree on other end of house in atlanta direction, then no more for 200 yards

A simple reception situation of the Atlanta stations.
Aim a Winegard Hd7696P antenna at about 14 degree magnetic compass. Here is how to aim antennas , http://www.kyes.com/antenna/pointing/pointing.html.

As always aiming a antenna into a tree or trees will reduce or block reception.
If possible , mount the antenna for the least amount of tree blockage.

No amplifier is required for one Tv connection.

For 2 Tv,s connections install a Channel Master CM3412 , 2 way distribution amplifier.

For 3 or 4 Tv's connected install a CM3414 , 4 way distribution amplifier.

As a test/experiment , aim the HD7696P antenna at about 137 degree magnetic compass.
To see if reception of the Macon stations are something to invest in.

If so then install a Second HD7696P antenna with a Winegard AP8700 preamp. The output of the AP8700 preamp will have no splitter for one Tv connection , a 2 way splitter for 2 Tv's connected , and a 3 way splitter for 3 Tv's connected.

It will be 2 SEPARATE Antenna systems the Atlanta antenna system and the Macon antenna system.

The 2 SEPARATE Antenna Systems WILL NOT be Connected Together On to One Coax.

The 2 SEPARATE Antenna Systems Will Be Separate all the way to the Tv or TV's. And a remote control A/B antenna switch will be at each Tv to switch from one antenna to the other. http://www.radioshack.com , # 15-1968 .

Can the splitter/amp go under the house in crawl space?
Wouldnt the antenna be pointed -14Deg or 346Deg instead of 14Deg based on report? or is the true north vs mag north account for this

Electron is trying to maximize the number of stations that you receive. That Atlanta stations are, for the most part, at 346° magnetic from your location. However, their signals are very strong. You do not need to aim your antenna directly toward them to receive them as clear as a bell. You also have several stations east of north. By aiming your antenna 14° east of magnetic north, you increase the quality of reception of these other stations without degrading your reception of the Atlanta stations. As for locating the distribution amplifier, I would not put it under the house. Without going into all of the downsides, I do not see an upside for this location.

Ok that makes since with the aiming. My reasoning for placing the amp under house was because of the current location of the coax running to the rooms. So just place the amp in one room and run all other coax from that room?

Yes the Channel Master distribution amplifier can go in the crawl space under the house if it is dry in the crawl space.

Use a distribution amplifier that has a output for each Tv location. Do Not connect splitters to the outputs of the of the distribution amplifier , the reason is many old houses and even new houses have coax wiring schemes that are not conducive to good tv reception , as an example , ganged splitters , a splitter is connected to another splitter connected to another splitter and etc. . Each time a split takes place the signal is reduced.

A coax will go from each output of the distribution amplifier to a Tv location.


As Mister Me says , The antenna is aimed at the Atlanta area stations in such a manner as to receive the maximum number of stations , aim the antenna at WGTV-DT channel 8 , About 14 degree magnetic compass , 10 degrees true.

As always the starting aim point is the starting aim point , the antenna can be turned for the best reception of the Atlanta area tv stations.

Look at the Current Plus Pending Applications Included Digital Tv stations/channels of the Tv fool radar plot and you will see that the Tv stations on the east side of north are weaker then the main group of Tv stations on the west side of north.

Tv antennas have a forward beam width , The forward beam width of the antenna will easily receive the Strong Tv stations on the west side of north , so the antenna is aimed more to the east side of north to get those weak Tv stations.
