Thanks for all of the updates!

I think we've captured all the information you've provided.

Just a few things worth mentioning:

- The channel 46 Daystar affiliate is still using the callsign of KDTP-LD in the FCC records, so that is how it will show up in reports.

- It looks like KFPH-CA has a new digital transmitter on record. This transmitter will undoubtedly replace their analog transmitter, but since we don't know when that will happen, the analysis results will show both entries for now. If anyone can confirm that the switch has happened, then we can remove the analog record.

FYI, these changes should take effect immediately on any newly generated reports.

dhett 29-Aug-2010 7:21 AM

You are correct in your identification as KDTP-LD. Daystar had changed call signs since being granted the digital companion channel CP, and actually had it changed to KDPH-LD in the FCC database, but the CP retained the KDTP calls, and when the FCC licensed the station, they changed the calls back to KDTP-LD. Daystar will have to get them to change the calls again.

More changes since my last post:
  • Analog station KEJR-LP 43 has surrendered its license and shut off. KEJR is now digital-only, broadcasting on RF channel 40 and identifying as 40.x.
  • KDTP-LD changed its PSIP and now identifies correctly as channel 48.x. Its RF channel is still 46.
  • KFPB-LD has come online on RF channel 50 and IDs as 50.x. It carries Video Zona TV as its primary subchannel. The station's community of license is Globe, but the station actually broadcasts from South Mountain and serves Phoenix. Its signal does not reach anywhere near Globe.
  • In Casa Grande, analog station K43CO has surrendered its license and has shut off.
  • All of the stations owned by Mohave County are now confirmed flash cut to digital, except for Bullhead City stations K02HR, K04GT, K07YJ, K09KG, K11LX and K12OF; Littlefield station K31EA; Colorado City station K27EJ; and Moccasin station K35EE. Mojave County also owns two stations licensed to Needles CA that are now digital: K17BN and K31HY. If you want the full list of converted stations, just let me know.
I post on Radio-Info.com a monthly update of stations in and near Arizona, which can help you keep at least the Phoenix, Tucson, Yuma-El Centro and Las Vegas markets current.

Notable Phoenix-market outlying station updates

The Phoenix TV market is far-flung, encompassing most of central and northern Arizona. Nearly 200 TV stations, mostly translators, serve the outlying areas of the market, but six of the stations actually hold full-service licenses. Certainly, a comprehensive list is too much, but here is a list of the full-service stations:

Call sign, City, RF channel, Virtual channel, Primary affiliation
KMOH-TV, Kingman, 19, 6.1, Tr3s (name change from MTV Tr3s, or MTV3)
KAZT-TV, Prescott, 7, 7.1, Independent
KNAZ-TV, Flagstaff, 22, 2.1, NBC (full satellite of KPNX 12 Mesa)
KCFG, Flagstaff, 32, 9.1, America One (currently silent)
KFPH-DT, Flagstaff, 13, 13.1, Telefutura
KDTP, Holbrook, 11, 11.1, Daystar (currently listed in TV Fool as Independent)

Here are notable updates to translators:
  • K14NA-D Globe/Miami has never had an analog signal. It flash cut from K57BO on analog channel 57 to K14NA-D on digital channel 14. It is a translator of KTVK 3.1/RF 24 Phoenix and IDs as channel 3.1.
  • K59CI Globe/Miami has flash cut from analog on channel 59 to digital on channel 27 per STA. It has been recommended by the FCC for a construction permit, so one should be coming soon. The station is a translator of KPHO-TV 5.1/RF 17 Phoenix and IDs as channel 5.1. The analog signal on channel 59 has been shut off.
  • K61FB Globe/Miami has flash cut from analog on channel 61 to digital on channel 48 per STA. The station is a translator of KPNX 12.1/RF 12 Mesa and IDs as channel 12.1. The analog signal on channel 61 has been shut off.

Once again, thanks for all the updates!

Most of these changes were made several updates ago, but I'm just posting a note here for completeness.

I think we've got all the updates for the major broadcasts. Not sure about all of the low power translator stations, but we should have everything that shows up in the latest FCC database updates.

We do not see any active records for K59CI any more. It looks like the record was removed from the FCC database as of November 9, 2010. Is this station still on the air?

K59CI Globe/Miami AZ had been operating in digital on ch 27 for several months per STA, but recently, the station had been granted a CP. It then applied for and was granted its license to cover digital operations on ch 27, so the station's new call sign is K27KS-D. Its virtual channel is 5.1, as it rebroadcasts KPHO-TV Phoenix.

K61FB Globe/Miami AZ finds itself in a similar situation: operating in digital per STA on a different channel than where it operated in analog, in this case, channel 48, while it awaits Mexican coordination for its digital flash cut application. It currently operates in digital on ch 48, while the ch 61 signal is off the air for good, but it retains the K61FB call sign. It has been given a temporary call sign of K48MJ-D. Once Mexico gives their blessing, the station will be issued a CP and once licensed, the K61FB calls will disappear, and you should then see the station under the K48MJ-D calls. Its virtual channel is 12.1, as it rebroadcasts KPNX Mesa.

Another change: NBC Telemundo has surrendered the license for K28EY. It is off the air.

Does this mean we're ready to pull all of the analog records for these stations out of the database?

I believe so, with maybe the exception of K30BQ, which has been switched over to digital without the construction permit having actually been issued. Although I believe Mohave County operates the station, it does not own it. If there is an STA in place for K30BQ, the CDBS database does not list it. Otherwise, all of the aforementioned stations have been issued construction permits and have been operating in digital for some time. The only stations Mohave County owns that haven't gone digital are K35EE Moccasin, K27EJ Colorado City, K31EA Littlefield, K11TA Golden Valley, and K02HR, K09KG and K11LX Bullhead City.

You haven't seen licenses requested for Mohave County's stations because they don't seem to remember to file for licenses to cover in time. The last time they had a large number of license modifications, they neglected to file for licenses to cover until the FCC canceled the permits.

March changes

KFTU-CD 34.x (18) Tucson is on the air, but KFTU-CA 34 is still operating as well.

Licenses for KQBN-LP 28 Prescott and K57JO Laughlin NV have been revoked by the FCC.

-K21EA Lake Havasu City and K34EF Kingman are translators of KASW Phoenix and ID as virtual channel 61.x.
