Recommendations for Better Signal Quality?

My current setup is a ClearStream 4 70-mile range antenna pointed in the range of 124 to 127 degrees. The antenna is mounted in the attic above the 2nd floor of my house (mounting outside is against subdivision covenant). The major networks (ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox) are a must have, the others are a nice to have. My setup for the last two years has been adequate, however, I do lose the signal 10% to 15% of the time. The weakest signal is the NBC (13.1).

I am checking to see if there might be a recommendation from those that have a lot more knowledge than me, for a slightly stronger antenna. Or, offer any advice based on general observation of the report, setup, and needs.

If you mean WTHR NBC, real channel 13, virtual channel 13.1, then you need an antenna with more gain for VHF-High channels 7-13.

The C4 (C4V) is primarily a UHF antenna for real channels 14-51. It usually comes with a simple dipole for VHF which probably doesn't have enough gain for WTHR since it is in the attic.

You can add a VHF antenna with more gain to your C4 or switch to a UHF/VHF combo antenna.

Are you using a preamp?

The FCC says you can have an outside antenna, but you might not want to fight the HOA.

Thanks for the reply and help. I am not using a preamp. I do not think I have an option for that, because I do not have power readily available in the area that the antenna is mounted. I had not even considered adding a different antenna for the VHF. I will research that option to see what I can find.

You do not need power for an antenna-mounted amp at the antenna's location, power is fed up the coax from the other end.

Do you have the C4 or the C4V? Both models have been and continue to be available. The difference is the clip-on VHF dipole with the "V" variant.

Subdivisions and HOAs are barred under federal law from enforcing such covenants and restrictions except under VERY narrow circumstances. I've yet to see a single case of an HOA not backing away from the FCC with their tail between their legs when they try to enforce those rules and the homeowner takes them to task and files a complaint. Enforcement of those restrictions have been unlawful for almost 25 years and it's pretty much impossible to believe that the boards and managements are unaware of that.

I do have the 4V, I apologize, I did not realize there were two different types. Mine does have the clip-on VHF dipole. Thanks for the info on the preamp.
