Televes DATBoss MIX LR vs Winegard HD-8800 vs Channel Master CM-4228HD + Winegard AP-8275 Preamp
The DATBoss comes with an integrated preamplifier. It automatically adjusts the gain to optimum levels allowing the system to avoid any overloading. Its maximum VHF gain is 28dB And maximum UHF gains is 27 dB. The Winegard AP-8275 UHF 29dB VHF 28dB Only my local transmitters will be used in this shootout. Local transmitters Are at 60 degrees and range from 4.9 and 6.9 miles out. One note. RF14 is a side lobe measurement. It is actually coming in from around 14 degrees in Virginia. The local topography is steep with intervening mountain ranges. All the transmitters are 1 and 2 edge. The Spectrometer I will be using is a Televes H30D3 A Winegard LS-275C splitter is being used. The HD-8200 is fitted with an original legacy CM-94444 balun. The day was parly cloudy. Humid and in the mid 80's. Antenna elevation is 31 1/2 feet A couple of pictures of the antennas in play and the lay of the land of my transmitters. The topographic cross sections are RF9 and RF28. https://scontent-atl3-1.xx.fbcdn.net...59&oe=5F706CA9 https://scontent-atl3-1.xx.fbcdn.net...be&oe=5F6EE6E3 https://scontent-atl3-1.xx.fbcdn.net...9e&oe=5F6EE649 The following are traces I let generate. The Sequence is DAT-8800-DAT-4228. Notice it is marked out on the RF9 Trace for reference. https://scontent-atl3-1.xx.fbcdn.net...54&oe=5F70664F https://scontent-atl3-1.xx.fbcdn.net...0b&oe=5F70AAD1 https://scontent-atl3-1.xx.fbcdn.net...4e&oe=5F717541 https://scontent-atl3-1.xx.fbcdn.net...f0&oe=5F6F2BCE https://scontent-atl3-1.xx.fbcdn.net...0b&oe=5F6FF972 https://scontent-atl3-1.xx.fbcdn.net...9e&oe=5F706679 |
The following are 4 data sets. Sequence matches the traces.
Keep in mind. Each one is a snap shot and time and they actually fluctuate on the spectrometer DAT https://scontent-atl3-1.xx.fbcdn.net...4c&oe=5F6EE7FD 8800 https://scontent-atl3-1.xx.fbcdn.net...7d&oe=5F6F2B98 DAT https://scontent-atl3-1.xx.fbcdn.net...3f&oe=5F706F44 4228 https://scontent-atl3-1.xx.fbcdn.net...b5&oe=5F71FF54 This second set has each D3 reading with the arranged with the specific antenna the DAT was going against at the time. DAT-8800 https://scontent-atl3-1.xx.fbcdn.net...af&oe=5F6E7A88 https://scontent-atl3-1.xx.fbcdn.net...15&oe=5F719785 DAT-4228 https://scontent-atl3-1.xx.fbcdn.net...53&oe=5F6F357B https://scontent-atl3-1.xx.fbcdn.net...b1&oe=5F711474 Conclusion. The DAT shows itself to be pretty solid against the 4228 and 8800. It distinctly came out in front on RF9 On RF14 if you look at the traces closely it came out slightly ahead of both the 4228 and 8800 RF35 it was distinctly ahead of the 8800 and edged out the 4228. On RF's 16 and 32 the DAT is was within a couple dB of the both the 4228 and 8800 on the D3 readings. On the traces all 3 antennas are pinned as high as the readings will allow. Basically showing a tie. |
