I signed up with a promo deal with Comcast when we moved here last summer. Now that it's expiring, I'm ready to ditch them. No existing equipment except for a Tivo Premier, no antenna, mast, or anything. Only 1 TV in the house, but I might like to add a tuner card to a PC one of these days.

Priority channel is FOX WXIN 45. The rest of the channels I basically don't watch. The house is a 2-story, with no nearby large trees to the southeast.

Try a Antennas Direct 91 xg mounted on the roof with a pre amp like the Channel Master 7777 Titan. It should give you a good strong signal on Ch. 45.

I agree with the XG-91... given your specific reception goal. (You can add a high-VHF antenna if you decide you want to watch programing broadcast on real channels 7 through 13.) I'm not overly worried about the CM7777 overloading, but would suggest you consider the Antennas Direct CPA-19 just to be on the safe side. You should have plenty of gain to overcome cable and splitter losses.

It looks like your TVFool report is based on the default mounting height of 10 feet. I would expect reception to improve at the height of the roof peak plus 5 feet. A tripod and 5' mast section would be in order.

I recommend a Winegard HD7694P antenna , $59.00 at http://www.amazon.com . And the Antennas Direct CPA-19 preamp. Fox is at 136 degree magnetic compass and so are the other channels. You are correct, I kept it at the defaults. I measured, the peak of my roof is 20' from the ground. Here is the updated report (25'):

Pictures of the mounting location and the view southeast attached. Is a tripod mount the best option here, or should I use the side of the house and mount it higher?

A tripod will give you maximum mounting height.

If you are strictly focused on reception of WXIN, the XG-91 remains the most reliable option. The Winegard HD769x series offers reception of the UHF channels as well as high-VHF (7 through 13)
