I put a LAVA HD2605 in my attic today and i was only at 30% signal strength and only picked up 3 channels. Now according to that report I should be able to pick up channels with a indoor antenna just fine so I figured this one in the attic would do wonderful. so is this poor reception due to the antenna or being in the attic. I tried turning it every different way and the very best i got was 30%. Any help will be greatly appreciated

Attics can be less than ideal locations for antennas. When constructed of wood and composition shingles, they may be adequate for some situations, but will still attenuate signals. As the weather turns wet and especially as you get a snow load, the situation will get worse.

I can't recommend the Lava product. The unrealistic advertising claims and the reports of build quality and reliability problems make me avoid the product completely.

You may want to try the antenna outside in the clear.

If we were neighbors, you'd see one or two antennas on my roof. In an effort to receive the weaker signals from WDMI and KHVM I'd use a Winegard HD7698P and an Antennas Direct CPA-19 preamplifier (aimed at about 45° compass). If the programming from those stations were not of interest, the smaller HD7694P would do well. I would use a second antenna such as an Antennas Direct XG-91 to receive KPXM to the north. A preamp would be needed and an A/B switch for selecting the desired antenna.

Thanks for your post. I was looking at the Lava. The ad boasts 150 mile range. We live in an area where 150 miles "might" be enough. But, if it's just hype, I'm going to look elsewhere.

Install a Winegard HD7696P antenna with a Antennas Direct CPA-19 preamp , aimed at about 25 degree magnetic compass. Here is how to aim antennas , http://www.kyes.com/antenna/pointing/pointing.html. The HD7696P has a wider angle of reception to the left and right of the front of the antenna. The HD7696P aimed at 25 degree magnetic compass will most likely receive the group of tv stations to the north east and channel 40 ION to the north. If not , then a second antenna can be added.

I really appreciate your help. I will start investigating today. I am hoping that this is something that we can do ourselves, but I may be back to look for a local installer. (very tough to find anyone on the web here.... I think that many people here don't have websites!).;)
