No NBC in Denver

I get about 45 channels using a antennas direct DB4 antenna in my attic. I really only care about the 4 networks of which I get ABC, CBS, and Fox. I don't get NBC however. I can't figure out why because the transmitters are all mounted on the same tower.

Any ideas?

The Denver ABC and NBC affiliates are VHF stations and you have a UHF antenna, making reception of those VHF stations completely unpredictable.

Add a ClearStream 5 or similar high-VHF antenna to correct.

So I picked up a clearstream 5 and one of these:

and still no luck. I get like 52 stations and all the network stations except NBC. Just really frustrating since they are all on the same tower. Is NBC just underpowered?

Edit: So the TV now recognizes that at least channel 9 exist, but it is unwatchable. ABC comes in worse than it did before with just the UHF antenna.

Attics are not ideal locations for antennas. The building construction reflects and absorbs signal, and the antenna is closer to interference generating devices in the home. Have you tested reception outdoors?

The C5 may not be enough antenna for the weak NBC signal inside the attic. Did you experiment with different areas of the attic? As high as possible in the attic is crucial in my attic for seeing weaker signals. Any chance you can mount it outside? If not, you will need a lot more gain & directionality.

My minimum recommendation would be a Winegard YA-1713, but it still may need to be outside to make NBC reliable. Unfortunately attic reception is a crap shoot, especially with weak VHF.

Have you tried just the C5 by itself, no RCA preamp, no DB4, no combiner, to see if you can pick up 7, 9, & 12?

That RCA pre-amp is ill-suited in areas where there are a mix of weak and strong signals as it overloads easily. You have a local VHF station that's fore-casted to be almost 50 dB stronger than the Denver stations. You also have a lot of local FM that the internal filter may not be able to handle.

Getting the VHF antenna out of the attic and up in the air would be the next step. There may well be electrical or electronic devices in your home that is drowning out the weak VHF signals from Denver. Could be an outside power line, neighbor's devices, etc.

One FM station in particular raises concern with possible 2nd harmonic interference issues for channel 9.

Install DB4 and C5 antennas above the Peak Of The Roof in such a manner that reception is not blocked by the roof and house in the directions of , south west , south , south east , north west , north.

Aim the DB4 at about 180 degree magnetic compass direction.

Aim the C5 at about 187 degree magnetic compass direction.

I usually do not recommend the RCA preamplifier.

However you have it , so , connect the DB4 to the UHF connection and the C5 to the VHF connection.

Switch the FM trap filter 'In' so that Fm radio interference is reduced.

Do not use the UHF/VHF combiner that came with the C5.

As always , trees and tree leaves do a good job of , multipath/reflecting , absorbing , blocking , Digital Broadcast Tv reception and so do buildings and other obstructions including your own roof and house.

It is best to install the DB4 and C5 antennas at a location that has the least amount to no amount of obstructions of any type or kind in the directions of reception including your own roof and house.

The Tv's Must Channel Scan for the , OTA=Over The Air , Digital Broadcast Tv stations/channels , often named the , 'Air Channels' or 'Antenna Channels' in the Tv Setup Menu because the Tv transmissions travel through the Air from the transmitting antenna to the receiving antenna.

Some Digital tv's will automatic channel scan for cable tv channels.

DO NOT channels scan for cable tv channels.

Go into the Tv Setup Menu and select , 'Air Channels' / 'Antenna Channels'.
