Upcoming New OTA DTV Channels in Ontario

Wonder if some one could provide an update on prospects of any future additional/new Over-the-Air DTV channel broadcasting for Southern Ontario or Greater Toronto Area.

We would like to see a 24/7 News Channel like 'CP24', Weather Channel like 'TWN' and Multi-Cultural Channels like 'Vision TV' broadcasting OTA. Can we expect this happening in coming months or years ?

Canadian broadcasters for the most part have never added any sub-channels. The only ones I recall off-hand are a few that both HD and an SD feed.

You'd have to contact them directly to express your interest.

CP24, The Weather Network, TVO and Vision TV are essentially information broadcasting channels. In my opinion these channels should not be treated as entertainment tv channels. Digital OTA broadcasting of these channels would provide a much wider viewership base for their advertising clients which in turn may result in more revenue to the broadcasters.

You need to talk to the broadcasters, no one here can do what you want.

Not sure where you got the idea that Vision TV is not an entertainement channel.

In any case, all these channels are licensed broadcasting undertakings under the Broadcasting Act administered by the CRTC. CRTC also licenses OTA broadcasters, and although theoretically could issue licenses for any appropriate channel, it has expressed an interest in only licensing channels that don't already exist on cable or satellite.

I would not hold my breath for any new stations in Southern Ontario.
Living in W.N.Y for many years, we used to be amazed at the large
antenna arrays in Ontario pointed for stations that serve Buffalo, NY. Nothing has really changed over the years. If anything, the disparity between the many OTA choices in Buffalo, NY versus few Toronto choices, has only grown worse.
