Feedback on OTA signal - Montreal, Quebec

Hi folks. Here's my report :

http://www.tvfool.com/?option=com_wr...5b94c2cfa5a752

I live in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.

I am using a Terk HDTVA antenna. Fresh off the box from Amazon.
Plugged in my LG 42'' HDTV.

I was wondering why I only get 4 channels?

-CIVM
-CFTM
-CBFT
-CBMT

And, for fun, I unplugged my antenna the other day and I still had these channels on my TV. Is it possible that my HDTV has it's own built in antenna and it gets these channels and that's it?

Thanks for your help folks..

The Local Canada Digital Broadcast Tv Stations/Channels are Very Strong Signal Strength , are LOS=Line Of Sight and Less then 3 miles away.

The amplifier in the HDTVa antenna will most likely over load from the strong local Canada transmitters.

The HDTVa can operate in a amplified mode and a non amplified mode.

The HDTVa Must remain plug in to electric power at all times.

A switch on the unit can turn the amplifier on or off.

But for the amplifiers on off amplifier function to work the Power supply Must Remain Pluged in to electric power.

And for the HDTVa to work to receive Tv transmissions the HDTVa -->Must be Pluged into Electric Power.

-------------

For better reception put the HDTVa in/at a South facing window.

Aim the HDTVa at about 160 degree magnetic compass direction.

Here is how to aim indoor and outdoor antennas.

www.kyes.com/antenna/pointing/pointing.html

Use a Real and Actual magnetic compass to aim antenna.

If a coax is running through the living space to get from the HDTVa antenna to the Tv , then so be it , because Reliable Reception is more important them objections to coax running through the living space.

--------------

The Tv Must Channel Scan for the , OTA=Over The Air , ATSC-Digital Brroadcast Tv Stations/Channels , often named the ~ Antenna Channs ~ ATSC Channels ~ DTV Channels ~ Air Channels ~ in the Tv Setup Menu Because the Tv transmissions travel through the air from the transmitting antenna to the receiving antenna.

Some Digital Tuners will Automatic channel scan for cable Tv channels.

DO NOT channel scan for cable Tv channels.

Go into the Tv Setup Memu and select ~ Antenna Channels ~ ATSC Channels ~ DTV Channels ~ Air Channels~.

Channel scan for ATSC-Digital Broadcast Tv Channels.

-------

Only use Known To Be Good Coax.

Most New coax Is Known To Be Good.

Old coax may not be good.

So.. I should turn off the amplifier that's what you said? Still.. I'm only getting 4 DTV channels.

The Tvfool report is showing that Many Digital Broadcast Tv Stations/Channels will be received at your reception location.

Some of the Tv stations are Strong Signal Strength at your reception location.

I am saying that strong signal strengths can overload a amplifier.

Reception can be tested with the amplifier off and on.

When testing reception with the amplifier off , scan for channels.

When testing reception with the amplifier on , scan for channels.

Digital Tuners can develop -Digital Glitches -that are not cleared out with simple channel scans.

To clear tuner do a Double Rescan.

www.wchstv.com/DoubleReScanAlert.pdf

The Tuner Must Channel Scan for the ATSC-Digital Broadcast Tv Stations/Channels , Antenna Channels , DTV Channels , Air Channels.

DO NOT channel scan for cable tv channels.

-----------

So is Also Possible that the Tv has a Defective Tuner.

------------

The HDTVa might be a defective antenna.

A simple indoor Type antenna to Test reception with is a , RCA ANT111 , indoor type antenna.

For better reception a outdoor above the roof antenna your reception location is a , http://www.antennacraft.net

HBU11K antenna aimed at about 160 degree magnetic compass direction.

Install the HBU11K antenna above the roof at a location that reception to the , South South West , South , South East , East , East North East , is not , obstructed , impeded , blocked , by the roof and building in those directions.

Also , trees and tree leaves , plants and plant leaves , have a Negative Effect on Broadcast Tv Reception in the directions of reception.

Some and not all Negative Effects are.

Absorbing and Blocking Reception.

Multi-Path Reflecting Tv Signals Bouncing All Around.

The Best Practice for Reliable Reception is to install the antenna at a location that has the least amount to no amount of obstructions of any type or kind in the directions of reception including your own roof and building.

With a outside antenna , a antenna system amplifier is most likely not required for , 1 , 2 , 3 , Tv locations connected.

For 1 Tv connected use No splitter.

For 2 Tv's connected use a 2 way splitter.

For 3 Tv's connected use a 3 way splitter.
