The problem is that KTLM is about 50 dB stronger than NBC. If it weren't for KTLM, you might have been able to pick up NBC with your antenna, but its 30 dB preamp was probably overloaded by KTLM. The ideal solution would be a custom filter (expensive) to make KTLM on real channel 40 weaker so that you could use a preamp for your weak desired channels. Without that filter, the best you can do is aim a high gain antenna, like the Winegard HD7698P, at about 105 degrees magnetic, and let the antenna pattern make KTLM weaker because it is in a different direction. It might be possible to add a medium gain preamp like the Antennas Direct Juice that is resistant to overload, but then your tuner might be overloaded. |
I'd agree with Rabbit that you do have a difficult but not impossible
situation. I also think the Winegard 7698p gives you the best chance to receive the channels you want. Hopefully you do not have trees which block your view to the Southeast. I'd use a "J" mount and initially try keeping your home between KTLM and your antenna. Your home could block the worst of the KTLM signal. A roof mount is probably not the way to go. The added height would help reception in some ways but cause overload from KTLM. This means mount somewhere on the South side of your home. I would suggest using a RG6 cable and run it to ONE television at first. Keep your cable run 50 feet or less. Be sure to ground your system. This should get you started. I suggest you first try the HD7698P antenna before ordering a custom filter. If you need a custom filter, call Tin Lee Electronics in Canada, talk to one of their filter engineers, and email your tvfool report to them. They can build a single channel bandstop filter to attenuate KTLM on real channel 40. http://www.tinlee.com/ http://www.tinlee.com/Matv_filters.php?active=3 http://www.tinlee.com/MATV-Bandstops.php?active=3#CR7 http://www.tinlee.com/PDF/CR7-%20bandstop-w.pdf http://www.tinlee.com/contactUs.php I suggest the CR7X-40 which has an outdoor enclosure so that it can be inserted between the antenna and the preamp near the antenna. CBS on 31 has co-channel interference from XET, also on 31, that is 17.8 dB stronger, but in a different direction. CBS must be at least 16 dB stronger than XET to avoid interference. The 7698 antenna might not be able to reject XET from the rear to avoid interference to CBS. However, you should at least be able to get KVEO NBC on 24 http://www.rabbitears.info/market.ph...&callsign=kveo and KRGV ABC on 13 http://www.rabbitears.info/market.ph...&callsign=krgv In a few years KTLM will move to channel 14, as a result of the FCC UHF channel "repack" which gives channels above 36 to the cellular interests. A new filter will be needed then to make 14 weaker. http://www.rabbitears.info/market.ph...&callsign=ktlm K48OL is not on the air. PAR Electronics might also be able to build a custom filter to attenuate 40: http://www.parelectronics.com/single-channel-tv.php |
