Install a Winegard HD8200U antenna with a Winegard AP8700 preamp , above the roof aimed at about 331 degree magnetic compass. Here is how to aim antennas , http://www.kyes.com/antenna/pointing/pointing.html . Here are some Strong and Sturdy antenna mounts for the big antenna. http://www.ronard.com/909911.html , http://www.ronard.com34424560.html , http://www.ronard.com/ychim.html , http://www.ronard.com. Here are some places to buy antennas and etc. , http://www.winegarddirect.com , http://www.channelmasterstore.com , http://www.solidsignal.com , http://www.amazon.com , http://www.starkelectronic.com , http://www.3starinc.com. This set up is based on the Pending Applications Included , Digital stations/channels for the tv stations in the direction of about 331 degree magnetic compass. And will receive All the stations/channels down to and including WOCK-CD digital channel 4. And will likely receive the tv stations/channels on past WOCK in the direction of 331 magnetic compass on down to WWME-LD 39.

I think 'deep fringe' may be a bit pessimistic, but I'll agree that 'fringe' is an appropriate word to use here. The majority of the signals from Chicago are within reach.

Option 1) A Winegard HD7698P and Antennas Direct CPA-18, roof or tower mounted, aimed at Chicago (331° compass). This should give you all the Chicago signals on your report with double digit NM predictions. No chance of seeing WOCK, real CH-4 and some of the Chicago signals with single digit NM predictions.

Option 2) A Winegard HD8200U and Antennas Direct CPA-18, roof or tower mounted, aimed at Chicago (331° compass). This should give you all the Chicago signals on your report with double digit NM predictions. A chance of seeing WOCK, real CH-4 though I believe your chance of reliable reception would be 'on the edge, with toes hanging over'. There would be a slightly lower chance at reliably seeing some of the Chicago signals with single digit NM predictions.

With both options, I think you could improve reliability of reception if you could safely mount higher. You can always run additional TV Fool reports at higher mounting elevations to see if signal conditions warrant the extra work and expense.

http://www.rabbitears.info/market.php offers information about each station and the various networks and independent programming carried on their sub-channels.

Excellent equipment and value is the HD8200U antenna at solidsignal for $117.99 . The HD7698P antenna at solidsignal is $121.99. May as well go all out for the reception with the HD8200U for reception. And not hang back with the HD7698P.

Ronard also makes a 10 foot tripod mount. http://www.ronard.com/Tripods%200703/4712.html. So with a 3 or 5 foot mount on a single level house , that would put the antenna at about 25 feet above ground , and with a 10 foot mount and a mast , that would put the antenna at about 35 foot above ground. The reference point of your reception situation is WOCK. To lift the NM number above 9 NM(dB) , with higher antenna height , into the double digits NM , will be good.
