pre-amp for HD7694P
 

I bought a Wineguard HD7694P. We are approx 125 above sea level and the antenna is on a 5' pole on a 2 story house. Reception is pretty good.

I went for the "45 mile" antenna as we are just shy of 30 mile from the ESB for NY network TV broadcast. Perhaps I should have bought the HD7697.
In any case, CBS is a little light sometimes.

The antenna is split at the antenna to 2 coax feeding 2 TVs, each approx 50' downstream of the out side split.

I'm thinking of putting a pre to boast for CBS as well as to split to a OTA DVR (Tablo or Silicon Dust) on one TV. And a 2nd split (if it works) for the other TV and FM (since it seems to do fine for FM as well).

Though I know the best bet is a pre at the antenna, might I have any success with the splits and pres at the 2 TVs?

We really need more information from you.
You need to attach a TV Fool report so we
can see the signals at your location. From
previous posts in Northern New Jersey, I
recall a high ridge that blocks signals from
NYC. How far is the antenna from the splitter?
What about trees? How close are they in
the direction of the ESB? Based on the limited
information you have given to us, I'd say you
are very lucky to be doing as well as you are!

prolly very lucky as you said.
trees, hills, ridges abound. Trees are about 50 feet from the antenna.
Split is about 6" from the antenna currently.

Quite possibly your best option would be to go
to the Antennasdirect.com website and call
their technical assistance line. You can explain
your situation and they will recommend the
best preamp option for you. Their products
usually cost a bit more but they seem to be of
better quality than most anything else out there.
The Winegard 7694p is a very good antenna and
a very good choice for your location!

I'll make it simple for you.

We have two pre-amps. One is suitable for ANYWHERE a preamp may be needed. The other is suitable for locations where there are no strong signals.

The simple rule that I made for our sales staff is that if there is ANY green on the TVFool plot (including FM), then use the Juice. If everything (including FM) is yellow or below, then the PA18 is fine. An FM filter may be needed if there are strong FM signals present regardless of which amp is used.
