First posting.

I recently dropped cable and switched to OTA tv reception.
Started with Zenith rabbit ears. Now have a RCA ANT 751R with a RCA TVPRAMP1R above the garage in the attic at ~15' evelation pointed 230 deg. about 100 feet cable total. Zip code is 48042.

I normally receive everything in green, yellow, and some pink zones that are canadian analog.

This morning before work I was flipping back and forth from the local news channels and noticed that I was now receiving a bunch of channels that I never got.

They were mostly Cleveland OH, one Toledo,OH and one Canton,OH.
WJW Fox 8 8-1 Cleveland
WKYC NBC 3-1 Cleveland
WEWS ABC 5-1 Cleveland
WQHS univision 61-1 Cleveland

WTOL CBS 11-1 Toledo

WLDI Canton 17-1

The Cleveland stations are > 100 miles away. The Toledo 70 miles, and the Canton 130 miles.

The anntenna is only supposed to be good for approx. 40 miles. As you might imagine I was thrilled to be receiving the additional stations.
Unfortunatley when I returned home from work today they all had vanished.

I was wondering what may of happened and what it might take to receive more channels than I currently have(now that I had more, I want more)

Is there better antenna for my location?

B.T.W. Have HOA rules. Would prefer inside/attic. NO TOWERS.

Thanks,
Joe

Do as the other question askers do and Do This-> http://forum.tvfool.com/showthread.php?t=4. Make the tvfool radar polar plot with your Exact address. Make the antenna height 25 feet. How many Tv's are/will be connected??

The distant channels were comming in due to an atmospheric condition which causes "skip" . You may be able to do the Toledo stations with a Winegard 8200 antenna and a Channel Master 7777 preamplifier.

The reception of the longer distance Cleveland and ect. Tv stations/channels is because denser and lighter layers of air can act as a funnel for Tv and radio signals and funnel the signals over long distances. Tropospheric Propagation. Tv DXing , Radio DXing , http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TV_and_FM_DX. DXing will happen often but is not a 100% reliable way to get reception. DXing is a popular hobby for many people.

You can receive some but not all of those Toledo Tv stations reliably if you will install a much lager antenna Winegard HD7698P antenna , 40 to 60 feet above ground.

Yes you can improve the reception that you have now with the ANT751 antenna that is a very good antenna for your reception situation and add a few channels by moving the ANT751 to above the roof and aim the ANT751 at about 200 degrees magnetic compass.
Here is how to aim antennas , http://www.kyes.com/antenna/pointing/pointing.html .
Use a Antennas Direct CPA-19 preamp with the ANT751. The CPA-19 preamp will supply signal to 3 or 4 Tv's.

Here is the Federal Antenna Law that says Yes you can install a antenna above the roof. HOA's are well aware of this Federal Antenna Law and they are required by Federal Law to comply with it. http://www.fcc.gov/guides/over-air-reception-devices-rule.
