Complete newbie. Biggest MUST is CBC. House faces East/West. Would prefer not to put a big antenna on the roof, much prefer something smaller. We could possibly mount something on the outside of the house, but would prefer to just mount inside if possible.

Thoughts?

Thanks so much,

The Canada stations are easy , the Tv transmissions from magnetic compass 245 are Very Strong. A indoor antenna will work Ok , http://forum.tvfool.com/showthread.php?t=233 , extend the metal rods of the antenna to a horizontal or Low V shape and the rods are broadside to the Tv transmitters. In Canada the Analog to Digital Tv transition is taking place you will have a mix of both. . If you will like to watch the USA stations you will need a winegard HD7697P on the roof pointed at 169 magnetic compass. I do not know about Canada sellers of Winegard , here are some USA sellers http://www.solidsignal.com , http://www.starkelectronic.com , http://www.warrenelectronics.com , http://www.amazon.com . Also read and understand this about Real and Virtual Tv channels. http://forum.tvfool.com/showthread.php?t=695 This is what has happend in the USA , the same thing is happening in Canada , however in Canada the tax payers/government is not providing money for the tranisition so as one Canadian put it , It's a "Fascinating Mess" http://www.tvtechnology.com/article/105462 . Interesting reading at digitalhome http://www.digitalhome.ca/forum/showthread.php?t=30998

Two quick thoughts: For indoors, try a Terk HDTVi (not the amplified version) and you will pick up all the channels in the green part of the table that are off to the southwest. For outdoors, an RCA ANT-751 should be fine for the same group of stations.

You might have some luck with picking up the Buffalo stations. If you want to persue that, or in any case, really, check out the appropriate threads at DigitalHome (http://www.digitalhome.ca/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=129) where they've been discussing this for some time. Introduce yourself as you did here and you'll get a lot of good advice.

Thanks everyone for your help!

I got the Terk, mainly because the Source had it on sale for 1/2 price(!). I pick it up today....with any luck it will work immediately with no fiddling with location etc. (heh).
