Antenna advice

Hi all,

I have an attic-mounted Clearstream2 and get WVIR 29.1, WHTJ 41.1, and WCAV 19.1 with no problems. But I am getting weak signal from WVAW 16.1 (frequently) and WAHU 27.1 (occasionally). I assume this is because they are low power transmitters.

Would a different antenna help (Clearstream4)? Or is this an impossible goal for an attic-mount?

Have you tested reception with the CS2 outside?

If you must make the attic installation work, I'd suggest using the highest gain UHF antenna that will fit. An Antennas Direct 91XG is not overkill IMO. Some attics can attenuate more than 20 dB... especially when the roof is loaded with wet snow. If that is happening to you, all of the gain of the large antenna would be needed.

Outside in the clear, a far more compact antenna such as the CS2 should be able to receive all the signals from 228° compass.

Thanks for the advice. I rotated my CS2 about 30 degrees and I get good signal now on all of the problem channels. For a multi-directional, it's fairly directional.

I will keep the 91XG in mind. We haven't had snow yet this year, but I will watch out for the signal change.

Install a Winegard HD7084P antenna with a CPA-19 preamp aimed at about 56 degree magnetic compass.

The DB4e / CPA-19 preamp and HD7084P / CPA-19 preamp , are 2 separate systems and Will Not be connected together on to one coax. The 2 separate systems will have separate coax all the way to the location of the tv , where the 2 separate systems will be connected to a remote control A/B antenna switch and the output of the A/B antenna switch is connected to the tv. I am also impressed with how well that station comes in at my test location near Madison/Reva. The tower for that station is actually right off Skyline Drive near the 211 crossing, so it get's out quite well.

Before turning digital, I could actually pick up that signal here in Arlington on RF 58, but now don't get it since it is on RF 21.
