View Full Version : 91xg and ya-1713 antenna spacing?

I have a 91xg in my attic and have been getting amazing reception on all of my UHF channels out of Albany thanks to the advice on this forum. My next step is to try and receive FOX on VHF channel 7 with the wineguard ya-1713. I am not sure if I have enough room to space them vertically, so is there a general rule of thumb for horizontal UHF - VHF antenna spacing? I haven't bought the antenna yet, so what do you think about the ya-7513 for my application? TVFool results below.

Other info - I do not care for my low band channel 6 since it is simulcasted on 45-3. I already have a UHF - VHF combiner/preamp.

Hello fellow Albany station watcher...I'm in the Glens Falls area and enjoy all the Albany stations at 53 miles out....
The YA-1713 is often recommended here, and elsewhere....I would say that would be a good choice...
Spacing for the 2 antennas (you've mentioned) vertically would be a half wave of the lowest channel to be received, RF channel 7 (middle of channel 7 is 177 mega hertz)
So spacing would be 2 feet, 7 3/4 inches (or greater), antenna boom to antenna boom.....
If you have to go side by side, a full wave length space is needed, 5 foot, 3 1/2 inches (or greater), mast to mast....
I would advise getting a UVSJ combiner (google it) to join the signals of the 2 antennas...this is very important.....
Hope that helps...I receive WXXA at a 72% signal strength, you should be ok at your distance....you may also find WNYT 13.1 (RF 12) and WNYA 51.1 (RF 13) once the VHF antenna is online, and maybe WVER 28.1 (RF 9) out of Rutland if you get real lucky....

Thanks! It is not as much as I thought. I will see what works best once I get the antenna. I already have a AP 2870, so I don't think I will have any trouble combining the signals.

Haven't heard of that one before (AP 2870), but yeah, that'll work!
