Here are my signal analysis results (http://www.tvfool.com/?option=com_wrapper&Itemid=29&q=id%3d4bba693ba6477f).

We have an antenna in our attic (we own a second story home and it was there when we moved in, can't find specifics about it). However, only one channel (2.1) came in. So we bought an amplifier (antenna mounted high-gain signal amplifier with booster) and plugged in in on the first floor behind our TV. Then we got 2.1, 5.1(choppy), 11.1, 38.1-38.3. So we moved it to the attic near the antenna (as directions say to mount it). Now suddenly we get the channels we care about (2.1, 5.1, 26.1, 38.1-38.3) but lost 11.1 which is HUGE and we don't get 14.1 either, which would be nice but is not necessary.

We noticed that 11.1 in the complete opposite direction of the other stations, but it was coming in when the amplifier was on the first floor. Why would moving the amplifier make us lose the signal completely?

Any ideas? We are very ignorant when it comes to the entire antenna process. Thanks.

Please describe your antenna and the amplifier you installed. What direction is it pointed now?

Your TV Fool report indicates that an attic mounted antenna is going to have a difficult time providing reliable reception of the signals that are now on the air. Before the country switched from analog to digital, there may have been enough signal power to receive a snowy picture but now, the type of antenna and correct installation location are critical.

I'd suggest that you consider installing an outdoor antenna such as the Winegard HD7698P (http://www.winegarddirect.com/viewitem.asp?d=Winegard-HD-7698P-High-Definition-VHFUHF-HD769-Series-TV-Antenna-%28HD7698P%29&p=HD7698P) aimed at 205° per your compass.

To understand your situation better, which of these looks most like your existing antenna?

Thanks for the replies, but by just adjusting the direction of our amplifier in the attic, we now get all the channels we wanted. So happy it was a minor fix!
