Do I have digital tuner???

I tried searching for info to no avail. Please copy/paste a post if you know of one and/or maybe someone could answer my question.

I’m dropping my cable tv on 11-24-11. I installed an antenna today and one of my tv’s gets like 25-channels with a perfect picture and the other tv a 32” DYNEX DX-LCD32 (bought in 2008) out of the 25 channels, only get 4 and they are PBS channels.

Does this mean the DYNEX doesn’t have a digital tuner? I have the original “user guide” but it does not talk about a built in digital tuner. And if it is not digital ready….why does it get the 4 PBS channels? Also when I did an automatic channel scan it “found” channels but then when it was done scanning the channel don’t come in….only the 4 PBS

The tv that gets all the channels says “Digital Tuner” right on the front of the TV.

The info provided at the above link indicates that there is an ATSC tuner built in. So, yes, the TV 'should' be able to tune, decode and display N. American OTA DTV signals.

Can you post your TV Fool report and also indicate the call sign and virtual channel numbers you are receiving?

The first TV is about 50 feet from the antenna (I'm using the old cable that was connected by my digital cable company throughout the house as my atenna wire) the second tv is about 70 feet from the antenna. The antenna is outside about 18 feet in the air. Do you think the signal could be too weak on the second TV? But why do the 4-PBS station come in crystal clear?

I'm using the ZIP code you supplied and the mileage figures that you posted.

Several more questions if I may,

Have you disconnected the cable service... or, is the antenna and cable service connected together? (I ask because connecting an antenna to a cable TV service feed will cause interference to police, fire and aircraft radio services.)

Which PBS station are you receiving?

Have you tried connecting the problem TV to the antenna with no splitter or extra cable?

Hi GroundUrMast this was emailed to me by DYNEEX (See below my comment)

I did disconnect the cable TV before I connected the antenna. I can’t try a direct connect on the other tv because it is mounted to the wall and would be a project to get it down. It will be my last resort.

I’ll try and send some pictures of the antenna and the splitters tonight or tomorrow. There are two splitters on my system. I think because we also have internet and phone with my cable company. We are dropping that too.

specifications:

So, you do need a cable o satellite box in order to have High definition channels.

Attached is a picture of my antenna and splitters. The cable in the picture that is not connected is the cable that goes to my antenna. There are two splitters because I have cable tv/cable internet/and phone (landline) which will all be disconnected on 11.22.11.

So, you do need a cable o satellite box in order to have High definition channels.

Okay, now that's just sad coming from a TV set company.....


Please advise as to DIRECTION the front (narrow end) of the antenna is pointing. A large all-channel antenna such as that will be quite directional.

Troubleshooting tip: Bypass all that cr... er, stuff, and run a single cable temporarily to a single TV set. Program it to see what you can get. Once that is successful, then and only then, start integrating the rest of the cable distribution scheme.

Sorry it took so long to get back to the forum. I was deer hunting (didn’t get one) and with the holidays there just wasn’t time. Update: I was at the local radio shack and the guy told me to buy high-end digital coaxial cable and to rewire the connections. Half my house had good cable from the cable company and the half had just plain cable that I ran many years ago. Long story short, I re-cabled the areas I was having trouble with and that fixed the issues. Now all 4 TV’s have a great picture.

I have internet through my “smart cell phone” and although it is only 3G and not very fast, it’ll do for now. My wife’s cell phone now has our landline number……so screw you Charter Cable Company, we are saving $239.00 a month, minus my wives cell phone (my cell phone paid for by the company I work for) and the cost of a few movie rentals on the weekend.

I won't go out to the end of the limb and claim I know the "best" way... I think that depends on each persons list of preferences and needs.

I use a network attached tuner and my PC. http://forum.tvfool.com/showthread.php?t=820 There are many variations of the HTPC.

I suspect most folks would think my solution is oriented toward the tinkerer.

Hauppauge 1212 HD-PVR, Channel Master CM-7000PAL and CM-7400 are a few current models on the market... There are plenty of other options.
