Antenna recommendations?

Hello All,

Newbie here. Just cancelled my Directv and am planning to use an off-air antenna for television programming, supplemented by the occasional Redbox rental or DVD purchase.

Found this site while searching for antenna recommendations. Could have just gone to the BigBoxDepot and had somebody as clueless as me make recommendations, but figured I'd try to find some clues online.

Planning on using the exsisting cable from the Directv system, replacing the LNB switcher thing with a splitter. Planning on 2 or 3 sets, depending on if I hook up the one in the garage, expanding to possibly 5 sets when the kids get older and want their own set.

I have a mast outside from a previous antenna install....has 4 sections at approximatly 8 feet each, so about 25 feet height max.

Wondering what everybody would recommend for an antenna?

Let me know if there's any other info needed.

A Winegard HD7694P or Antennacraft HBU-33 pointing south and slightly east should have no trouble driving a passive 4-way splitter. Even an 8-way split should work without an amplifier.

Beware of anyone trying to sell you an amplified antenna of any sort... the strong signal levels will almost certainly drive most amplifiers into overload.

Try one of those antennas with headings of both 341 magnetic and 175 magnetic and see which heading gives you the most channels.
