new to OTA

So I did like many others and cut cable. I bought a DB8e antenna and pointed it west toward all the channels I wanted. Here is my tvfool report http://www.tvfool.com/?option=com_wrapper&Itemid=29&q=id%3dd24340d9fc0891

The only channel that I get is KAAS-DT Fox which is 150 miles away and comes in as clear as a wistle. All i want is nbc cbs and abc. What am I doing wrong? When I bought this antenna I thought that it would be more than enough to get what I wanted. Any advice would be great. its hooked up with all RG-6 with no splitters, just running to one tv.

KAAS's programming is carried on KSAS-LD in Dodge City and operates on UHF is likely what you are getting. The odds of picking up KAAS's channel 17 signal from the other side of Salina, except under unusual atmospheric conditions, is nil.

The other factor that stands out is that at least three of the stations to the west (KBSD, KUPK, and KSNG) are on VHF (including one on channel ) and the DB8e, being explicitly a UHF antenna, wouldn't be expected to pick them up. You'll need a channel 2-13 antenna combined with the DB8e but the deep-fringe 2-13 antennas are a thing of the past.

You also need a low-noise, medium gain preamplifier.

The Y10713 would be a good choice. I'm using a Y10713, a DB8e and a 10G221 all on the same mast, with good results. I expect you could use the 10G222, since you have no strong nearby stations.

Biscuit has a VHF-LO channel on 6 (CBS). Is the Y10713 the best option since it's VHF HI? The CS600 comes to mind, but that would probably not be strong enough to also get 13 (ABC) and 11 (NBC).

Warren Electronics still lists the Winegard HD 5030 VHF antenna. Add that to your DB8e with a TVPRAMP-1R.

Yeah, I was in a hurry - just looked at the link he provided.

For VHF low, the HD1850 has been recommended here in other threads - http://www.antennacraft.net/Antennas/AntennasAllChannel.html - but it would not have the UHF sensitivity of the DB8e ... so you could run this into a preamp along with the DB8e.

Not sure whether the HD5030 or the HD1850 is more sensitive to ch 6 ... the Winegard is certainly cheaper.

What about a Y5-2-6 & a Y5-7-13 with a HLSJ & add the DB8 in with a UVSJ?

A lot of metal in the air, but not too hard from a wallet impact perspective

I ended up buying the TVPRAMP-1R preamp and the antenna craft c490 to run with my DB8E. Cant wait to get them in and report my results
