Hi. I am going to a Metal Roof. My question is how will this affect my OTA?

If your antenna is in the attic, it won't receive much if any signal once the roof is covered in metal.

A common J pole used to mount small satellite dishes is too short. An OTA antenna mounted that close to a metal roof is going to be de-tuned by the close coupling to the metal. The results will be unpredictable, but usually less satisfactory than before the metal roof was installed.

Generally, the higher the better. Try for 6' or more. The metal will reflect signal, which could cause multipath symptoms. Those effects will be less as you increase the space between the antenna and other metal. The antenna should not be pointing at nearby metal.

Use a Strong and Sturdy antenna mount such as a tripod antenna mount , chimney antenna mount , peak of the roof eave mount. http://www.3starinc.com , http://www.solidsignal.com , http://www.starkelectronic.com , http://www.amazon.com . . Do Not mount the antenna so high that you are doing monkey swinging manuvers to get the antenna mounted. Do not fall off the roof. . If you feed the coax up through the mast , the coax will come out the top of the mast and connected to the antenna. No need to tape the coax to the outside of the mast.
