Hi!

We cut the cord in January, and have been fine with Netflix and Roku, but football is coming up....
The Mohu Leaf I got only brings in fuzzy 2-3 channels (If you don't count shopping, those come in fine) on a clear day. The Satellite TV folks wouldn't install here, said the signal or line of sight or was too bad.
It may be worth mentioning that we have a two story house with a chimney surrounded by tall fir trees.
I'm hoping we can find an outdoor antenna fix. We will want an installer- we are not that handy! So if Redmond folks can weigh in on those services, we would be much obliged....

Thanks so much!

The tvfool radar map shows the 2 Main directions of reception at your reception location are , South West and South East.

Above the chimney install a.

http://www.antennacraft.net.

HBU33 antenna.

Aim the HBU33 antenna at about 230 degree magnetic compass direction.

---------------------

Here is how to aim antennas.

http://www.kyes.com/antenna/pointing/pointing.html.

Use a Real and Actual magnetic compass to aim antenna , do not trust a , cell phone , tablet and etc. compass.

As always , the antenna aim and location can be adjusted for best reception.

Most Digital Tv's have a Signal Strength Meter and some Digital Tv's also have a Signal Quality Meter.

---------------------

Here are above the chimney antenna mounts.

http://www.ronard.com/ychim.html. Measure around the chimney and use a , ronard(2212) , ronard(2218) , ronard(2224) .

http://www.ronard.com.

--------

Home Depot has , 10 foot 6 inch length , 1 and 3/8 inch diameter , TOP RAIL , chain link fence , PIPE , that makes good antenna mast/pipe , the price is low at about 12 dollars.

---------------------

As a Test of reception I recommend test reception , without and with a antenna system amplifier.

When testing with a antenna system amplifier.

Install a.

http://www.antennacraft.net.

10G201 preamplifier.

When testing reception with out the antenna system amplifier , No parts of the antenna amplifier will be connected , the preamp unit will not be connected , the power injector will not be connected , the power supply will not be connected.

---------------------

As a Test to Prove Reception , connect a New Continues Length of RG-6 Coax to the antenna above the chimney and Run the New Continues Length of Coax through a open door or window direct to 1 Tv.

---------------------

The Tv Must Channel scan for the , OTA=Over The Air , ATSC Digital Broadcast Tv Stations Channels , often named the ~ Antenna Channels ~ ATSC Channels ~ DTV Channels ~ Air Channels ~ in the Tv Setup Menu because the Tv transmissions travel through the Air from the transmitting antenna to the receiving antenna.

Do Not Channel Scan for Cable Tv Channels.

---------------------

For all outside coax that is exposed to the weather use , RG-6 coax that has the , Compression Type Connectors on the ends of the coax , the reason is the compression type connectors is to keep water out of the , connectors , connections and coax and the devices that are connected.

Do not use the old type of crimp type connectors on the ends of the coax.

---------------------

If reception is Ok.

---------------------

Then can connect and use the coax that is in/on the house.

---------------------

If reception Degrades to the point that their are reception problems at one or more Tv's when the coax that is in/on the house is connected , then coax and other devices that are in/on the house are most likely the problem.

---------------------

For 1 Tv connected use No splitter.

For 2 Tv's connected use a , Holland Electronics , HFS-2D , 2 way splitter.

For 3 Tv's connected use a , Holland Electronics , HFS-3D , 3 way splitter.

Buy the , HFS-2D , HFS-3D , splitters at , http://www.hollandelectronics.com , or , http://www.amazon.com.

--------------------

Also know this.

As always , trees and tree leaves , plants and plant leaves , have a Negative Effect on Broadcast Tv Reception and so do buildings and other obstructions including your own , attic , roof , building , in the directions of reception.

Some and not all Negative Effects are.

Absorbing and Blocking Reception.

Multi-Path Reflecting Tv Signals Bouncing All Around.

The Best Practice for Reliable is to install the antenna at a location that has the least amount to no amount of obstructions of any type or kind in the directions of reception including your own , attic , roof , building , in the directions of reception.

Also if avoiding obstructions in the directions of reception means installing the antenna some where other then the , attic , roof , building , then install the antenna at the better location.

---------------

Yes the first reception Test location is above the chimney of the house.

Thanks so much! that is a lot of information!
I have been able to locate all of the equipment online, and the pricing seems reasonable to give it a go. It will take a few days for everything to get here. We do own an actual compass, so that isn't even a problem!
My reading of the analysis suggested that we *should* be able to do this, so I am hopeful...
I do hope we can figure out someone other than my husband to get up on the roof though.
I'll keep you posted!

If you are only interested in football you might want to see if you qualify for this.

https://www.directv.com/DTVAPP/nflws/

Sounds like you might.

It looks like you have to belong to some "select" groups to qualify for that deal. Besides, while the NFL part sounds terrific, what would we do for college ball? I think I have to pursue the antenna. Finagling:D the World Cup nearly did us in....

Ha! I totally understand. I'm new to OTA myself and I'm quite frankly amazed at the quality of it. I'm working to tweak mine to get a bit more signal. I'm missing an ABC station in my setup. Good luck!
